Julianne Herrity

Julianne Herrity enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer program in 2023

Herrity joined the Warhawks as the program's eighth head coach in 2020, following a three-year stint as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II powerhouse Carson-Newman University. The Donegal, Ireland native helped the Eagles to a 46-11-3 record over the three-year span, highlighted by a mark of 25-3-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.

The Warhawks scored 17 goals during the 2022 campaign and posted three victories against GSC opponents including a dominating 4-1 victory on Senior Day against Shorter University. The Warhawks also earned a 1-1 draw against 18th-ranked Lee University on Oct. 16. Eight different players bagged a goal with nine players earning at least one assist, and AUM placed 18 athletes on the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

AUM scored 27 goals over 16 matches in 2021, for an average of 1.69 per contest on their way to finishing 6-10. Forward Mayson Jaindl ranked in the top five in scoring in the GSC with nine goals netted on the year, while freshman midfielder Anila Mantello ranked third in the league with seven assists. Jaindl logged the program's first hat trick since 2018 with her three-goal performance in the Warhawks' 5-0 win at Shorter on Friday, Oct. 22. Senior defender McKenzie Nowin and Mantello both earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for their efforts both on the field and in the classroom.

The Warhawks tallied the first official win of the Herrity era on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a 1-0 shutout at Shorter University. Prior to that, AUM logged a 1-0 home exhibition win over West Alabama on Friday, Feb. 5. Junior Mayson Jaindl led the AUM attack with a pair of goals while four different Warhawks contributed for an assist during the 2021 GSC Spring Championship series. Keeper Rebecca Jamieson played in all 556 minutes in goal for the Warhawks, recording 30 saves and posting a save percentage of 67 percent. The Warhawks’ 2021 campaign in the GSC Spring Championship Series came to a close with a hard-fought 2-1 setback at Christian Brothers in the first round of the postseason tournament.

While serving as an assistant for the Eagles, Herrity handled the daily planning and coordinating of training sessions, recruiting of both domestic and international student-athletes, monitoring of academics in the classroom, scouting of opponents, analyzing game film and helping maintain the team budget.

With Herrity on the coaching staff, the Eagles captured the SAC regular-season championship in both 2017 and 2018, as well as the SAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Division II National Runner-Up finish in 2017.

The 2017 team became the first in the history of the CNU women's soccer program and the South Atlantic Conference to advance to the national championship match. The team, which finished 21-1-1, was ranked as high as second nationally during 2017, and only trailed for 42:44 of more than 2,100 minutes of game time.

Herrity enjoyed a decorated two-year playing career for the Eagles from 2015-16 prior to becoming an assistant coach. She compiled 43 points in 22 games during her senior season at striker, tallying 18 goals and adding seven helpers en route to being named to the 2016 First-Team All-SAC squad, NSCAA All-Southeast Region First Team, D2CCA All-Southeast First Team, and to NCAA Division II CoSIDA Academic All-District III Team. Herrity was also named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week twice during the season.

As a junior, Herrity appeared and started in 20 matches scoring 16 goals to go along with four assists. Seven of those 16 were game winning goals, which ranked seventh in the nation and also tied a school record. Following the 2015 season, she was named SAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-SAC, First Team All-Southeast Region by the NSCAA and D2CCA, and Third Team NSCAA All-American.

Herrity has coached within the Tennessee Olympic Development Program since 2018, where she's helped plan and run training sessions and evaluate female soccer players within the state of Tennessee. She additionally served as a head coach in the Global Premier Soccer Club from 2011-15, with stints in both Massachusetts and Florida during her time with the GPS.

Herrity holds a U.S. Soccer D Coaching License, as well as a Football Association of Ireland National D License.

Herrity earned her undergraduate degree in Sports and Exercise Science from Ulster University in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2013. She received two master's degrees while at Carson-Newman, earning her Master's of Business Administration in 2016 and her Master's in Education in 2019.

Katie Roberts

Katie Roberts enters her third season as the women's soccer assistant coach in 2023.

Roberts joined the AUM coaching staff on August 4, 2021 from Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga., where she worked as an assistant coach since the fall of 2018.

While in Americus, Roberts assisted with all aspects of the program, including recruiting, planning and running training sessions, game preparation, film breakdown, travel planning, community service engagement, academics monitoring, and weight room training. Roberts worked with Hurricane goalkeepers in 2018, and additionally handled head coaching responsibilities in the 2019-20 and 2021 off-seasons while the position was vacated.

Prior to her time in Americus, Roberts served as an assistant coach at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio from 2017-2018, where she worked primarily with midfielders and forwards. Under Roberts' guidance, the Lions led the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with 58 goals scored in 2017 while forward Kaylan Gruber earned United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American honors.

Prior to St. Joseph, Roberts was a volunteer coach at High Point University in High Point, N.C., where she was responsible for working with the HPU forwards. She also assisted with all aspects of the program including planning training sessions, film breakdown, assisting with gameday operations and the Fit for 90 athlete wellness monitoring system.

Roberts was a four-year letter winner at the University at Buffalo and was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2014. Over four years with the Bulls, Roberts played in 79 games with 60 starts and notched 53 points on 23 goals and seven assists. She was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team after leading the team in goals and assists in 2011 and led the team to a MAC Championship as a senior with 12 goals and three assists in 22 games.

Roberts holds a USSF E Coaching License. A native of Homerville, Ohio, she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University at Buffalo in May of 2015, while minoring in Education.

Matthew Thorne

Matthew Thorne enters his fifth season at the helm of the men's soccer program in 2023.

Thorne, who was announced as head coach of the Warhawks on December 27, 2018, is the program's sixth head coach and was the 2017 Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year. Thorne came to AUM from conference foe the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala., where he began the men’s program in 2012.

Thorne has amassed a career record 109-61-21 as a head coach. As the gaffer of UWA men’s soccer, Thorne went 78-43-9, going 48-23-4 in league play. Thorne, who was UWA's first-ever men's soccer coach with the program's inception in 2012, helped the Tigers won the GSC Tournament Championship four years in a row from 2014-2017, while also winning the regular season championship in 2015 and 2017. In 2017, UWA reached the Third Round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history while compiling a 16-3-1 record.

Thorne led the Warhawks to a 8-6-3 record in the 2022 season, highlighted by another trip to the GSC Tournament and advancing to the semifinals in Huntsville, Alabama. The Warhawks knocked off Montevallo in the first round of the GSC Tournament. Phillip Spickenbaum, Jamos Hauk, and Charlie Elliot all notched a spot on the All-GSC Second Team. Hauk also earned a spot on the D2CCA All-South Region Team, while Elliot and Spickenbaum were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team. The duo of Hauk and Spickenbaum were tabbed with All-GSC Academic Team.

The men's soccer program took a massive next step in its NCAA membership in 2021, making a postseason run that saw them advance all the way to the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Postseason Tournament. The Warhawks recorded a 1-0 double-overtime victory at #9 Tampa on Nov. 21 and a 0-0 draw with a 5-4 penalty-kick advancement at #1 Young Harris on Dec. 2 over the course of their postseason journey. Senior goalkeeper Alexander Kraus earned Gulf South Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors, in addition to being named to the All-GSC First Team. Kraus, who also earned D2CCA All-South Region First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team Honors, finished the season with 10 clean sheets and a 0.57 goals against average that ranked fifth in the nation and marked for the second-lowest season GAA in program history. Arnaud Baron, Andrew Elkins, Jamos Hauk, and Phillip Spickenbaum all earned All-GSC second team honors, giving AUM a GSC-best five all-conference selections. Elkins also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors for his efforts both on the pitch and in the classroom and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second-Team honors. The Warhawks conceded just 17 goals over 20 matches, for an average of 0.85 per game.

The Warhawks posted a record of 3-0-2 in the GSC Spring Championship Series in 2021, with a mark of 3-0-1 in conference play. AUM clinched first place in group b of the regular-season standings with a dramatic 2-1 home win over Shorter University on March 11, highlighted by an 81st minute goal from Charlie Elliott to help clinch the win. The Orange and Black outscored their opponents 10-5 in five matches while outshooting their opponents by an average of 15.4 shots to eight per contest. Phillip Spickenbaum led AUM with three goals and eight points while Eric Besse’s three assists marked for the team high. Keeper Alex Kraus posted a goal’s against average of 0.90 in 500 minutes in goal, in addition to logging a save percentage of 71 percent and pitching one shutout.

The Warhawks finished 9-6-3 in 2019, adding six wins from the previous season. Thorne received Gulf South Conference Co-Coach of the Years honors for leading the Orange and Black to a second-place regular-season finish, while posting a conference record of 6-2-3. Under Thorne's tutelage, the Warhawks earned 21 points in league play, and the rights to host a home playoff match as the number-two seed in the GSC Men's Soccer Quarterfinals in their first season of full-fledged membership in NCAA Division II. Alexander Wagner (1st Team), Arnaud Baron (2nd Team) and Thomas Carlile (2nd) were tabbed the program's first ever All-GSC selections under Thorne's guidance. Defensively, the Warhawk surrendered 17 fewer goals than in the 2018 season, while allowing their opponents to score just 1.11 goals per match. The Warhawks won six straight matches from Sept. 15 through Oct. 6, and went unbeaten in nine straight matches from Sept. 15 through Oct. 22.

In seven seasons with the Tigers have claimed GSC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons with Thibault Charmey earning the accolade in 2013 and 2014. UWA has had 10 players named to the All-GSC teams, four named All-South Region and one Capital One All-American in 2016 and 2017. In addition, this past season saw Ali Brador named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Scholar All-America Team Third Team.

After the 2018 season Thorne coached the Birmingham Hammers of the fourth-division of the United Soccer League, leading the squad to its most wins in a season in team history.

Thorne began his coaching career at AUM in 2007 as a graduate assistant coach under former head coach Wulf Koch, graduating in 2009 with a Master of Business Administration degree.

In his first season with the then-Senators AUM won the NAIA Region XIII Championship, reaching the NAIA National Tournament Final Four. After three seasons with AUM Thorne became an assistant coach with Huntingdon College from 2009-2011, before becoming the first head coach in UWA history in August of 2011.

Thorne is a 2007 graduate from Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn. with a B.S. in Business and Sport Management, where he played four seasons for the Redhawks. During Thorne’s time at MMC, he helped the team achieve a Trans-South regular season and tournament championship in 2004. Thorne was a three-time all-Trans-South Team selection while garnering all-region and all-American accolades in 2006.

Following his collegiate career, Thorne played with the Palm Beach Pumas in the Professional Development League in the summer of 2006 and played with the semi-professional Icelandic second division team IH Hafnarfjordur in 2008.

Since 2007, Thorne has been a part of the Alabama Olympic Development Program. He also has a USSF National A coaching license to go along with a Level 1 and Level 2 Football Association of Ireland Coaching Badge. A native of Rush, County Dublin, Ireland, Thorne came through the prestigious College Prep program Colaiste Ide where he received “Achiever of the Year” in 2003.

Thorne and his wife Ashley have three daughters, Saoirse, Niamh and Ciara.

Alexis Arriaga

Alexis Arriaga enters his first season as the assistant men's soccer coach for the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks.

"I am delighted to get Alexis back home to the program where he played at," said head coach Matthew Thorne. "Alexis has the hunger, desire, and skill set to really help our team reach its potential, and we are excited to have him on our staff."

A former Warhawk standout on the soccer field, Arriaga was a four-year member of the Auburn University at Montgomery soccer program from 2016 through 2019. He was a Dean's List selection each year and appeared in 66 career games with 35 starts. He tallied 16 total points, including seven goals and two assists, and logged over 3,400 minutes on the pitch.

Arriaga re-joins the Warhawk family after serving as the assistant coach at Iowa Western Community College. While with the Reivers, Arriaga helped lead and execute team training, was responsible for helping coach the forwards, and led group and individual technical sessions and meetings. He also assisted in recruiting, serving as a contact point with MLS NEXT academies.

Arriaga played a critical role in individual player development, was in charge of set pieces and scouting reports, and assisted with all other facets of the program.

Prior to joining the Reivers, Arriaga spent time at fellow Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) institution Indian Hills Community College. While at IHCC, Arriaga helped the team to a 12-9-1 overall record and a No. 18 national ranking. He assisted the program in the recruitment and development of an All-American, eight All-Region players, and a Region XI player of the year from a scouting network that reached 15 different countries.

The Warriors captured the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI championship, and Arriaga played a pivotal role in planning and executing team training, small group functional & individual technical sessions, scouting reports, meetings, budgeting, and fundraising for the program.

Arriaga also spent time as a graduate assistant for the Iowa Lakes Community College men's soccer program in Estherville, IA, where he helped the Lakers to its most successful season in program history under head coach Ben MacRae.

The Lakers finished third at the NJCAA DI National Tournament in the spring 2021 season and closed the campaign with a 12-5-1 record.

He also spent the past two years on the coaching staff of the Ocean City Nor'easters of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) League Two, a semi-professional developmental soccer league, where he helped the squad to the 2022 and 2023 Mid-Atlantic Division titles.

Arriaga received his undergraduate degree in International Economics and has his United States Soccer "D" License.
