Meghan Mauzy-Fleming

Meghan Mauzy-Fleming was named Averett University’s women’s soccer head coach in January 2020.

Mauzy-Fleming returned to Averett after serving as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer and men’s soccer programs at Richard Bland College of William & Mary for one season. Prior to joining the staff at Richard Bland, Mauzy-Fleming was an assistant coach for two seasons with the Averett women’s soccer program.

Mauzy-Fleming became the 11th coach of the Averett women's soccer program since it began play in 1993. She took over a program that has a history of success over the past decade, including a USA South Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012, along with two USA South Player of the Year selections and one Academic All-America recipient.

Mauzy-Fleming's first season at the helm of the Cougars brought the challenges of a postponed 2020 fall season. However, the Cougars navigated it by holding fall intrasquad scrimmages to prepare for the 2021 spring competition season. She notched her first career victory with a 2-1 home win over Mary Baldwin University and had one player selected to all-conference and one named the conference rookie of the week in the abbreviated season. She also had a player earn the Dr. Frank Campbell Sportsmanship Award at Averett's Night of Champions.

In her second season (and first full season) during fall 2021, Mauzy-Fleming helped guide the Cougars to a 5-7-2 overall record with a 3-5-1 mark in conference play. She coached the USA South Conference Rookie of the Year and two all-conference selections, along with one all-state selection and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Co-Rookie of the Year.

In 2022, Averett made the transition into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Cougars had five players earn Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators.

While at Richard Bland, which competes at the junior college level, Mauzy-Fleming helped start the women’s soccer program, which went 5-7-1 (4-3-1 in conference) in its inaugural season while making the conference tournament and producing the Region X Conference Player of the Year. As an assistant with the men’s soccer team, she helped Richard Bland advance to the conference finals, as well as the district tournament.

Mauzy-Fleming played four seasons of collegiate soccer, including her final three at Division II Mississippi College. She earned Gulf South Conference honor roll all three years in the classroom and was a starting midfielder on the field. Mauzy-Fleming was a team captain during her senior season and also served on her school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She began her playing career at Eastern Florida State College.

Mauzy-Fleming gained coaching experience as a head coach of a youth soccer club team, an assistant coach at Berkshire Soccer Academy during the summer of 2016 and through an internship with the women's soccer program at Mississippi College. She joined Averett’s coaching staff in July 2017.

Since then, Mauzy-Fleming served as an assistant coach for the North Carolina State Olympic Development from 2017 to March of 2019. Additionally, she worked as a soccer coach for No. 1 Camp over the summer from 2017 to 2019.

A native of Titusville, Florida, Mauzy-Fleming earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology (sports management) from Mississippi College in May 2017 and her master's degree in education from Averett in 2019. She resides in Danville with her husband, Kenny, and son, Roman.
