Filipe Barateiro

Filipe Barateiro is entering his second year as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Emory & Henry College and his third year with the program. He spent the 2021 season as an assistant on Lisa Buckley's staff, helping lead the team to a 9-3-2 record and the best winning percentage in program history.


A native of Cascais, Portugal, Barateiro joined the Wasps' coaching staff from King (Tenn.) University, where he was both the men's & women's assistant/goalkeeper coach for the 2020-21 academic year. He was responsible for planning practices, producing game plans for opposing teams and monitoring academic eligibility. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Barateiro was also responsible for recruiting and fundraising.


During his time as an undergraduate, Barateiro also coached in the Knox County (Ky.) school system. He spent the 2019-20 at Knox County Middle as the head boys' soccer coach and the 2018-19 season in the same role at Knox County High School.


Barateiro coached with Dragon Force Youth Academy of F.C. Porto, one of the largest youth academies in Portugal from August 2015 to July 2017. He worked with the U-10, U-16 and U-18 teams, also selecting and coordinating interns for the U-10 program.


As a player, Barateiro was a three-year starter in goal for Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. During his time with the Bulldogs, he helped lead the team to the Appalachian Athletic Conference title in 2019 and a spot in the NAIA National Tournament. Over his career, Barateiro earned 14 wins, made 133 saves and had a 1.38 goals-allowed average. He also played academy soccer for Groupo Desportivo Estoril Praia in Lisbon, Portugal from 2001 to 2020.


Barateiro earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from Union in 2020 and a Master of Business Administration from King (Tenn.) University in 2021. He holds National "C," "D" and "F" Licenses as well as 11v11 and 9v9 Grassroots Licenses from the United States Soccer Federation and is currently pursuing his "B" License.

Ali Al Gashamy

Ali Al-Gashamy is entering his first year as Head Men's Soccer Coach at Emory & Henry Univeristy.


He joins the E&H after leading the men's soccer program at Limestone University for the past three seasons. During his time as head coach of the Saints, Al-Gashamy and his staff amassed a 37-11-10 record, with a .724 winning percentage. Over the last two seasons, the team posted a 31-5-5 record, ranking top-five in all of Division II. Under his leadership, Limestone achieved the program's first-ever Elite Eight appearance in 2023 and consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances.


Al-Gashamy coached seven players to eight All-American selections in the last two seasons, and guided the team to three conference titles: two tournaments and one regular season championship. His teams led the conference in scoring every year and were top-15 in scoring offense and top-10 in scoring defense in Division II for both 2023 and 2024, for a goal difference of 110-25 over the last two seasons.


Al-Gashamy, a native of Kristiansand, Norway, began his soccer career playing professionally for IK Start Club Team in Norway's top division. He later moved to FC Flora Tallinn in Estonia and FK Jerv in Norway's second and third divisions. His playing career continued in the United States with Detroit City FC in the USL.


He attended Gardner-Webb University, where he was a standout player. He was a four-time All-Big South selection, twice earning first-team honors. He posted 64 career points on 23 goals and 18 assists, with his best year in 2016, leading the team with nine goals and three game-winners. After his playing career, Al-Gashamy transitioned into coaching. He served as a graduate assistant coach and then as the first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at GWU. During his tenure, he helped guide the team to a 9-8-2 record in 2019, earning the third seed in the Big South Conference Tournament.


Al-Gashamy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and International Business in 2016 and later earned an International Master of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gardner-Webb.
