Katy Freels

Katy Freels enters her first season as head coach of the women’s soccer program at Florida Tech in 2024. This comes following a three-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach with the Panthers.


During her three seasons as a volunteer assistant, the Panthers saw much success, claiming the South Region Championship twice, making a final four appearance, and reaching the Sunshine State Conference tournament championship for three consecutive seasons.


Freels was a member of the staff that earned the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year in 2023.


Prior to Florida Tech, Freels served as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Auburn, from 2011-2014. During this time, the Tigers compiled a 48-34-10 overall record with an SEC Tournament Title and three NCAA appearances.


Additionally, Freels had an accomplished playing career, both in college and professionally.


Freels played for the Western New York Flash in the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite, (WPSL Elite, in 2012, the top division of women's soccer in the United States at the time and helped lead the team to the league championship title.


A year later, in 2013, Freels was selected in the first round, fifth overall, of the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft by Sky Blue FC in the National Women's Soccer League. She played three seasons with Sky Blue FC, making 65 appearances tallying 11 goals and 12 assists.


Freels also played for the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels. She was a member of the U-23 team that won the 2008 Nordic Cup in Falun, Sweden, where she played in three of the four matches and contributed to the squad's not surrendering a goal in four matches.


A former standout Scholar-Athlete at Auburn from 2008-2011, Freels was named a member of the Southeastern Conference 2019 Class of Women's Legends.


During her collegiate career, Freels led Auburn to an SEC Tournament Championship and four NCAA Tournament appearances.


Freels holds Auburn's career records in assists (42) and points (104) and ranks fifth in SEC history in assists. She also ranks tied for second in program history in game-winning goals (11) and fourth in goals (31).


Freels paced the Tigers in points in each of her four seasons on The Plains and led the team in goals and assists on three occasions.


The Homewood, Alabama, native is one of five soccer student-athletes in SEC history to be named First Team All-SEC four times, including the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year. She was a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American (2010-11) and is the only Hermann Trophy semifinalist in program history (2010).


Freels was a two-time CoSIDA and NSCAA Academic All-American (2010-11) and was not only named the 2010 NSCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year but also the 2011 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.


Freels earned her bachelor’s degree in political science: International Relations from Auburn in 2011.


Freels resides in Melbourne with her husband, Kevin, and their three kids, Kinsey, Canon, and Crew.

Scott Wilson

Scott joined the Florida Tech Women's Soccer Coaching staff in March 2024 as Assistant Coach, having spent the past two years with Lake Erie College as Assistant Coach and Interim Head Coach of the Women's Soccer program. At Lake Erie College, he oversaw all aspects of the program, including opposition analysis, practice planning, recruiting, and office administration. In his time at Lake Erie College, he helped coach FWD Leonie Witt to the program's first All-Ohio first-team award. He also helped The Storm to their most successful season since 2019 in the fall of 2023. Scott has spent time coaching within the United Women's Soccer League, having spent time with Erie Commodores in 2023 as Assistant Coach. Scott's coaching career has also taken him internationally, working with professional academies such as FC Barcelona, Chelsea, AS Roma, and RCD Espanyol.


As a player, Scott graduated from UW-Superior in 2022 with a double major in Business Administration and Sports Management & Coaching. He was a 3-year Captain with the Yellowjackets, winning 3 UMAC Regular Season Titles & 3 UMAC Conference Tournament Titles and making 2 NCAA appearances. Individually, Scott was a 3x UMAC 1st Team Selection, 2x All-Wisconsin 2nd Team Selection, 1x All-Region Selection, and was named 2021 UMAC Defensive Player of the Year. Scott also spent two years playing semi-professional soccer in the NPSL with Duluth FC in 2021 & 2022.


Scott graduated with his MBA from Lake Erie College in May 2024 and holds various coaching licenses from US Soccer, USSF, The Scottish FA, and The English FA.

Robin Chan

Born in Malaysia and raised in Walton-on-Thames, England, former Florida Tech men’s soccer standout Robin Chan is entering his 19th season as the head coach of the men's soccer team at Florida Tech.


Over Chan's previous 18 seasons, he has amassed a 134-111-32 record for a .542 win percentage.


The 2022 season was a historic season for the Men’s Soccer program. Chan led the Panthers to the program's first Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship in program history, the first undefeated regular season since 1993, and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.


The Panthers finished their season with 10-1-7 overall and 5-0-5 in SSC play. Florida Tech was ranked nationally for all nine weeks of the regular season. Out of the nine weeks, the Panthers were ranked in the top 10 for seven of those weeks. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, the Panthers earned the No.1 seed to make their 11th NCAA appearance in program history.


Additionally, the Panthers earned five All-SSC honors including Defensive Player of the Year in goalkeeper Luis Tovar Romero, Sr. Seven Panthers were named to the D2CCA All-South Region selections, while five were selected to the USC All-South Region Teams. Mikkel Kvinnesland earned CSC Academic All-District honors.


Tovar Romero and Drechsler became Florida Tech’s 12th and 13th All-American’s in program history and the first USC All-Americans since 1994.


Chan and his coaching staff were named the SSC Staff of the Year award as well as the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.


In 2021, Chan produced two Cosida Academic All-District honorees and a All-Region selection in Guillermo Segovia.


Robin and the rest of the men's soccer team did not get a chance to compete in official NCAA contests in 2020 due to COVID-19. However, they did record a 1-2-1 record in the program's spring matches.


2019 was a banner year for Chan and the team as they amassed a 12-4-1 record and finished second in the Sunshine State Conference with a 7-2-1 mark. This record got the Panthers back into the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2016 and their first tournament win since 1993. Under his tuteluge, many players won individual awards highlighted by Guillermo Segovia's Scholar All American honor. Additionally, the team had 12 all-region selections between various publications and seven players were named to the All-SSC team including the Freshman of the Year in Ellis Hudson.


The 2018 campaign saw Robin and the men put together an impressive 10-4-1 record and a 6-3-1 conference mark. Individual he helped Mikkel Roeisland and Per Henrik Nag to multiple individual accolades (All-SSC, D2CCA All-South Region, USC All-South Region). Along with Paris Junior Roserie being named Cosida Academic All-District first team.


In the 2017 season, Chan's team went 9-6 (6-3 SSC) which was good for a fourth place finish in the Sunshine State Conference. The team garnered many post season awards highlighted by Evan Enders and Jan Hlavica receiving second team CoSIDA Academic All-America laurels.


In 2016, Robin and his squad posted a 10-5-1 (6-3 SSC) record and that was good enough for an appearance in the NCAA tournament (the teams first since 1994). The team was led by Florida Tech's first SSC Defensive Player of the Year Sam Sawyer. Sawyer along with Adin Kavara and Evan Enders received various All-South region honors.


Chan, a former Florida Tech student-athlete, was a forward for the Panthers in 1988 when Tech captured the first of its two NCAA Division II National Championships (one of three schools in the SSC to have one title).


Chan joined the athletic department at Florida Tech after ending an eight-year stint with Melbourne Central Catholic High School as the head coach of the boys soccer team. While at MCC, he produced many successful seasons including two state championships in 1998 and 2003, eight consecutive district championships, five regional championships, and five state final four appearances. At the end of the 2003 season, MCC was ranked #1 in the country by StudentSports.com.


Chan lives in Melbourne with his wife Ellie, sons Christian and Collin, and dog Scout.

Nick Robinson

Nick Robinson is in his second season with the Florida Tech men's soccer program and was promoted to the role of Associate Head Coach in December of 2022.


Robinson was a vital staff member as an assistant coach in his first two seasons with the Panthers. In Robinson's time, the Panthers have accumulated a 15-9-8 record, including an undefeated regular season in 2022, the first Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship in program history, a No. 1 seeding heading into the NCAA Tournament, and a Sweet 16 appearance.


Robinson saw five All-SSC selections, including Defensive Player of the Year in goalkeeper Luis Tovar Romero, Sr., five USC and eight D2CCA All-South Region selections, and two First Team All-Americans during his two years with the Crimson & Grey.


A former star for the Panther men's soccer team from 2009-2011 and graduate assistant coach from 2012-2014, Robinson returned to Florida Tech after spending four seasons as assistant coach of the Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team from 2016-2020.


Eastern Florida State experienced much success during Robinson's tenure as an assistant coach, as he helped guide the Titans men's soccer program to an overall record of 55-14-7. Robinson and Titans head coach Oliver Twelvetrees were named the United Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Division I South Region Staff of the Year in 2019 after leading the Titans to a program-record 16 victories during the 2019 season, including a trip to the 2019 NJCAA National Championship Game. EFSC also made an NJCAA Final Four appearance in 2018.


The Titans won three straight Region 8 (Florida) Championships, appeared in four straight District/Regional Final Championship games since the 2016 season, and finished top 10 in the end-of-season NJCAA national rankings in all four seasons. Additionally, EFSC had its first National Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the 2019 season to go along with four NJCAA All-Americans.


Robinson also currently serves as the head coach for the 6A Viera High School boys' varsity soccer team, where he has held the position since 2015 and accumulated an overall record of 112-26-12. Most recently, Viera captured the program's second regional championship in 2021-22, was crowned district champions, and made their way to a state runner-up finish.


In 2020-21, Robinson led Viera to the program's first regional championship and was crowned district champions for the first time in 10 years on their way to a state final-four appearance. Robinson was named Brevard Sports Network Coach of the Year for the 2020-21 high school season. In 2019, Robinson also guided his U19 Space Coast United Soccer Club to a Florida Youth Soccer Association State Championship, finishing as the top-ranked team in the state.


Robinson, a native of Victoria, Australia, had a stellar career for Florida Tech during his three seasons on the roster. He was named to the NSCAA All-South Region team in his senior season in 2011 and garnered SSC All-Conference team honors for two of his three seasons as a Panther. He started 42 of 45 games during his Florida Tech career and finished with 14 goals, seven assists, and six game-winning goals. Robinson led the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists, including three game-winners during his senior season.


After graduating from undergrad, he became a graduate assistant coach for the Panthers from 2012-2014, working alongside Chan while completing his master's degree. Florida Tech posted a 15-14-4 record during his two seasons on the sidelines.


Before transferring to Florida Tech, Robinson played the 2008 season at Lees-McRae College and helped the Bobcats go undefeated in conference play throughout season. Lees-McRae claimed both the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championship that season and went on to the NCAA Sweet 16. Robinson earned All-Conference Carolinas team honors in 2008, finishing with six goals and five assists during his freshman season.


Robinson earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2012 from Florida Tech and his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Florida Tech in 2013. Robinson currently holds his NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF C License and is in the process of completing his USSF B License.


Robinson and his wife, Skylar, reside in Melbourne, Florida, with their two children, Mason and Harper.
