Laura Burnett-Kurie

Laura Burnett-Kurie entering her 12th season as head coach of the Gustavus women's soccer program in the 2023-24 acadmeic year. Burnett-Kurie, a 2008 graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges (NY), is the fifth head coach in the history of the Gustavus women’s soccer program.


Burnett-Kurie earned her first MIAC Coach-of-the-Year honor after her fourth season with Gustavus in 2015. Burnett-Kurie directed the 2015 Gusties to the greatest turnaround in program history as they finished 13-7-1 overall and 8-3 in the MIAC, and then went on to claim the MIAC Playoff title with a 1-0 victory at St. Thomas. Burnett-Kurie also directed her squad in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998.


A licensed member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Burnett-Kurie was most recently the assistant women’s soccer coach at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. since August of 2010. While on staff for the Bulldogs, Burnett-Kurie served as the team’s director of recruiting and assisted in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of running a high caliber NCAA women’s soccer program. Redlands compiled a mark of 22-15-1 overall and 13-11-0 within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) during her two seasons with the program. The Bulldogs qualified for the SCIAC Post-Season Tournament both years following fourth place league finishes.


Before taking the job at Redlands, Burnett-Kurie served as an assistant coach for the Gettysburg College (Pa.) women’s soccer program from June 2008-2010. At Gettysburg, Burnett-Kurie assisted in all aspects of team management and was specifically responsible for the in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs for the team.


As a college player, Burnett-Kurie was a four-year starter and captain (2007) for the Heron women’s soccer program from 2004-2007. During her tenure on the field, she helped lead the team to the program’s first Liberty League Championship, one ECAC Championship, and two NCAA Tournament appearances. William Smith went a combined 56-13-8 within that time, as Burnett-Kurie became just the fifth women’s soccer player in Heron history to reach the 100-point milestone, registering 42 goals and 18 assists over her career. After being named Liberty League Rookie-of-the Year in 2004, she went on to be a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Third Team All-American (2006, 2007), and the Liberty League’s Player of the Year in 2006.


In addition to her accomplishments on the field, the Durham, N.H. native also garnered numerous academic honors. Burnett-Kurie was an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America honoree in 2005, a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree (2005-07), and a three-time Liberty League All-Academic performer.


In addition to her responsibilities as head coach, Burnett-Kurie also teaches in the Health and Exercise Science Department.

Benton Frayne

Benton Frayne returns to the Gustavus women's soccer coaching staff for the 2023 season as the program's associate head coach. Frayne, who spent the 2015-18 seasons with the Gusties as an assistant coach, returns to Saint Peter after serving as the head coach of the Buena Vista women's soccer team for four years.


As the head coach at Buena Vista, Frayne in his first season doubled the team’s win total from the previous season. Frayne’s final season with the Beavers in 2022 proved to be the program’s best in over a decade. The Beavers nearly doubled their goal production and cut their goals against by 24.


As the assistant coach at Gustavus from 2015-18, Frayne helped direct the Gusties to three consecutive conference tournament appearances, including the 2015 MIAC playoff championship and NCAA tournament appearance. The Gusties compiled an overall record of 38-29-11 in Frayne’s four seasons. Prior to Gustavus, Frayne was an assistant coach at Bethany Lutheran College from 2013-14. A native of Albert Lea, Minn., Frayne completed his Bachelor of Science in recreation and tourism at Winona State University in the spring of 2009 and earned a Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Tudor Flintham

Tudor Flintham completed his fourth official season as the Gustavus men's soccer head coach in the 2022-23 academic year after taking over the reins on April 16, 2018.


In his first four seasons at Gustavus, Flintham has guided the Gusties to four MIAC championships and three NCAA tournament appearances, including hosting in 2022 where the Gusties won the NCAA North Regional to advance to the Sweet 16 and then Elite 8. The 2022 team was ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation and finished the regular season undefeated while setting the program record for games undefeated in a single season. The team won the program's record-setting 24th conference championship, while finishing with a15-2-6 overall record and 9-0-1 conference tally.


Flintham was voted 2022 MIAC Coach of the Year and the Gustavus soccer staff was recognized as the United Soccer Coaches North Region Staff of the Year. This is the second time in his four years that Flintham has won MIAC Coach of the Year, as in his first season the 2018 squad won the MIAC title. The following year the 2019 won both the regular season and playoff championship, as wella s equaling the program record for wins in a season.


Flintham's teams have been ranked No. 1 in the North Region and top-20 in the country in every season he has been at the helm. During this time, the Gusties' conference record is 34-4-2 for a 78% MIAC win rate, and they average a MIAC championship and 15 wins each season. Flintham's Gusties have an overall record of 63-14-8. The Gusties also went a perfect 7-0-0 during the restricted and unofficial COVID-19 season. Flintham's win percentage is the highest of any Gustavus soccer coach in the past 50 yeaers.


In four full seasons on the Gustie bench, Flintham's student athletes have been awarded 19 All-Conference accolades, 10 All-Americans, 12 All-Region, 10 CoSIDA Academic All-District, four CoSIDA Academic All-American, two Conference Player of the Year, two professional players, and one MIAC Elite 22 Award winner.


Prior to Gustavus, Flintham was the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University. At Nebraska Wesleyan, Flintham guided the programs to a combined 49 wins in his three seasons, including 33 shutouts. In his last season, the men went 11-7-1 overall and won their first playoff game in 20 years. The NWU men also finished undefeated at home and went 10-0-1 in his last 11 games in Lincoln.


Prior to his time at Nebraska Wesleyan, Flintham was the associate head soccer coach at Saint John’s University from 2010-14. He also served as an assistant at the College of Saint Benedict from 2012-14. In his last two seasons at CSB/SJU he coached 52 wins, two MIAC titles, three MIAC championship games, and travelled to the NCAA tournament.


From 2008-10, Flintham was head coach at both Valley Catholic High School in Beaverton, Ore. and the F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in Hillsboro, Ore. At Valley Catholic, he achieved a 29-4-4 record, the 2018 State Coach of the Year award, back-to-back District 1 Coach of the Year awards, and was a finalist for NCSAA National Coach of the Year.


Flintham earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s in 2006. He was a three-year starting forward for the Johnnies, playing in 65 games from 2002-05 with 21 goals and 19 assists for 61 points. Flintham was an All-Region selection while earning MIAC All-Conference and Academic All-Conference in 2005. His senior year, Flintham captained the team to the conference playoff championship and finished the regular season as the MIAC statistical leader for both goals and assists.


Flintham is the ninth head coach in the history of Gustavus men’s soccer. Since the program began in 1967, the Gusties have amassed an all-time record of 580-235-1123 and have gone 346-127-76 in the MIAC. Gustavus owns 17 MIAC regular season championships, has gone 7-1 in MIAC playoff championship games, and has made 14 appearances at the NCAA Championships – all marks that lead the conference.
