Sam Cain

Cain brings incredible knowledge of the game both as a player and a coach. As the Assistant Women's and Men's JV Soccer Coach at Iowa Lakes, Cain learned the goals and culture at Iowa Lakes and is committed to continued soccer development.


"Excited to have Sam as our Head Women's Soccer Coach. Sam has an excellent knowledge of the game of soccer and is a high-level coach. He did a superb job as our assistant women's soccer coach this past season," explained Athletics Director Troy Larson. "He has been recruiting hard and already added some talented student-athletes. I'm looking forward to next season."


Cain played collegiate soccer at Frederick Community College before transferring to Post University, where he won the CACC Conference Championship while earning a bachelor's degree in Business Management. Since 2010,


Cain has coached, developed, and scouted players of all ages and levels. Cain recruited over 25 players for professional teams in Europe and Asia while recruiting international players for collegiate programs in the United States.


In 2021, Cain joined Iowa Lakes as an assistant for the women's soccer programs and coached the JV men's soccer team to a 4-1 record, successfully showing his expertise in player development.


"I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected as the next women's soccer coach at Iowa Lakes. I would like to thank Dean of Students Julie Williams and Athletic Director Troy Larson, along with the rest of the hiring committee, for this opportunity. I am honored and humbled to join the program in one of the nation's top Junior College Conferences," said Cain.

Abbey Miller

No stranger to Iowa Lakes, Miller was a graduate assistant for the Iowa Lakes Women's Soccer program from 2015-17. Since then, she has stayed in the Spencer area, as an assistant coach with the Lakers and as the Director of Operations/Director of Coaching with the Northwest Iowa Soccer Club (NWISC). In addition to volunteer coaching at Iowa Lakes, Miller will continue her role at NWISC, running the youth recreational soccer program, and being a competitive club coach.


Miller graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and earned her Master of Education from Iowa State University.


At Grand Valley State University, Miller held the goalkeeper position and helped her team win two National Championships. Miller was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Goalkeeper of the Year, Daktronics All-American First Team, and All-GLIAC First Team.
