Christie Kopietz

Christie Kopietz (formerly Chappell) is in her eighth season as the head women's soccer coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2023. She also serves as the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee at MSUM.


MSUM went 2-11-3 in 2022 with Kopietz helping guide freshman Jensen Seidel to the All-NSIC Second Team.


The fall 2020 season was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.


MSUM continued its progression under Kopietz in 2019, going 6-8-4. The wins were the most for the Dragon program since 2011. Lauren Phillips earned All-NSIC Third Team honors. The Dragons were in contention for the NSIC tournament until the final week of the season.


In 2018, Kopietz led MSUM to four victories, the Dragons' most in a season since 2012. The season was highlighted by a 3-2 overtime win over regional qualifier Minot State. Five of the losses came by one goal. Kylee Billings earned All-NSIC Third Team honors while Tomomi Nishihara was honorable mention.


In 2017 junior Jessica Dallman was All-NSIC honorable mention


Kopietz guided the Dragons to three wins in their first season in 2016 and senior Jessica Johnson was an All-NSIC honorable mention selection. Nine Dragons earned NSIC All-Academic honors as well.


In Kopietz's three years as MSUM head coach, the Dragons have earned 29 NSIC All-Academic honors in women's soccer.


A native of Almonte, Ontario, Canada, Kopietz has spent the past four seasons on the Division I Northern Illinois women’s soccer coaching staff. She was an assistant coach from 2012-13 and promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2015 season.


Kopietz helped NIU show steady improvement offensively during her four years on the staff. The team scored seven games in 2011, but followed with 20 goals in 2012 and 23 goals in 2013. In 2014, the Huskies reached the MAC tournament semifinals for the first time since 2007.


Prior to her time at Northern Illinois, Kopietz was an assistant coach at North Dakota State for four seasons. During her time with the Bison NDSU won the Summit League Championships in 2009 and qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2010. She also coached four seasons with the Red River Soccer Club, working with U13 boys and U10 girls teams.


Kopietz worked at Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference school St. Cloud State from 2007-08.


She began her coaching career at her alma mater, Minnesota Crookston, in 2006. She had a stellar four-year playing career at UMC, setting the program’s career record in goals (25) and points scored (62). Kopietz was a two-time All-NSIC first-team selection for the Golden Eagles.


Kopietz is a 2006 graduate of Minnesota Crookston with a degree in business management. She earned her master’s degree in sociology from North Dakota State.


Kopietz's family includes wife Karli Kopietz, son Otto Kopietz and daughter Olive Kopietz.

Michelle Martinez

Michelle Martinez is in her ninth season as an assistant coach for Dragon women's soccer in 2023.


A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Martinez has a strong soccer background. She has served as the Fargo North head soccer coach since 2014. Prior to that, she was an assistant boys and girls soccer coach at Fargo Davies from 2010-14.


She starred in soccer at North Dakota State from 2004-07. Martinez finished her four-year career with 30 goals (third most in NDSU history) and 69 points (fifth all-time in school history).


Martinez led the conference in goals (10) and points (25) in 2006. She was named to the D1 All-Independent Team in 2005 along with being named team's most valuable offensive player. In 2004 she was named the Team Offensive Player of the Year.


She received her undergraduate degree from North Dakota State in 2008 and earned her master's degree from the university in 2016. Martinez is a physical education teacher at Kennedy Elementary school in Fargo.
