Pat Laughlin

New England College Director of Athletics Dave DeCew has announced today the hiring of Pat Laughlin as the new men’s soccer head coach in April of 2022.


"I am excited to lead the Men's Soccer Program at New England College and thank Dave DeCew and the search committee for their support in this process,” stated Laughlin. “The more I learned about the school, athletic department, and student-athletes, I realized this was an incredible opportunity for my family and me. I am looking forward to getting on campus and working with the Men's Soccer student-athletes."


Laughlin has spent the last 12 years as the “Friends of Brown Men’s Soccer Head Coaching Chair,” where he led the Bears to a 93-73-31 overall record, with 10 NCAA Tournament games, one Ivy League title, and was the last Ivy team to make NCAA sweet sixteen (2010, 2011). Laughlin has coached multiple academic and athletic All-Americans. The Bears received the United Soccer Coaches (USC) team academic award for 12-straight seasons (2009-21). Prior to Brown, Laughlin had other Division I coaching experience at Cleveland State University (1994-97), the University of Rhode Island (2006-07), and the University of Maine (2007-09). While at URI, the Rams won the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.


“We are thrilled to know Pat Laughlin will be the next leader of our men’s soccer program,” said DeCew. “Pat is an accomplished and proven coach who believes in building and maintaining a positive culture while developing and mentoring student-athletes. Our men’s soccer participants and coaches have elevated the program recently; we believe Pat will continue to ascend on that foundation and take it to new heights competitively and in the community.”


Before being named the head coach at Brown, Laughlin had 16 years of being a head coach for a collegiate team. From 1997 to 2000, he was the head coach for Champlain College, where he went 28-21-3, and was the Northeast Region Champions in 1997 and were finalists in 1998 and 1999. From Champlain College, Laughlin was an Assistant Athletic Director and the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Dean College for six seasons. At Dean, the Bulldogs went 69-36-6 and was the NJCAA National Finalist in 2002. When Dean College didn’t make the National Finals, they were the New England Regional Champions in 2002 and 2003, while being a finalist in 2005.


Laughlin earned a Bachelors's Degree in Arts and History from the University of Maine in 1992 before receiving his Master of Education with a focus in Sports Management in 1996 from Cleveland State University.
