Becky Scroger

The William Peace women’s soccer program has been on an upward trajectory since Becky Scroger became head coach in 2022.

Scroger, in her third season at WPU, has directed the Pacers to two consecutive winning seasons since taking over the helm. The Pacers were 11-6-0 overall in 2022 with the 11 wins being the most in WPU history as a NCAA Division III program.

In 2023, the Pacers were 8-7-3 overall and qualified for the USA South Tournament for the second straight year. Under Scroger’s direction, the Pacers are 19-13-3 overall and 9-7-2 in the USA South Conference the past two seasons.

A Rochester, N.Y., native, Scroger has led the Pacers to their most success as a Division III program. Prior to Scroger’s arrival, the Pacers posted a losing overall record each year since 2002.

In 2022, the Pacers broke program records in nearly every statistical category, including most wins in a season. WPU reached the USA South semifinals that season which was its highest finish ever in the conference tournament.

Kyra Delaney tied the single-season individual school scoring record and six players received USA South All-Conference honors, including Delaney and Raine Greene, both first-team selections. The duo also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team, becoming the first All-Region selections in program history.

In 2023, the Pacers again broke multiple school records, including the most goals scored in a season, and reached the USA South Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year. Emma Avery set new school records for goals scored in a single season (15 goals) and most points in a single season (34 points - 15 goals, 4 assists). Avery and Kayla Johnson were named to the USA South All-Conference Team and Avery was a United Soccer Coaches Third-Team All-Region honoree.

Prior to her arrival at WPU, Scroger spent five seasons as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. During that time, her players earned 10 all-conference honors. In the spring of 2021, despite a shortened season, the team had its best conference record since 2014, including an undefeated record at home. In 2019, her team finished with the most wins for the program since 2014. During the 2020-2021 year, her team was awarded the United Soccer Coaches Academic Award for the first time in program history, posting a 3.65 Team GPA.

Before becoming a head coach, Scroger was the Assistant Coach at Division II Seton Hill University in 2015 and 2016, helping the team earn its first ever NCAA regional ranking in 2015. She coached one PSAC All-Conference honoree, as well as an All-Region selection. The Griffins boasted a Team GPA of over 3.6 and were awarded the 2015 PSAC Conference Sportsmanship Award.

Scroger served as Assistant Coach at Division I Bucknell University in 2014. That season, the Bison went 10-9-2 and earned its first Patriot League Tournament victory since 2007. Scroger coached two all-conference players and one All-Region player.

From 2012 to 2014, Scroger was an Assistant Coach at Washington & Jefferson College, where she helped director the Presidents to two 10-win seasons and a conference semifinal appearance. Scroger coached eight all-conference players, two all-region players, two ECAC all-stars, two CoSIDA Academic All-District players, and the 2013 PAC Player of the Year during her two seasons with the Presidents.

As a student-athlete, Scroger was a four-year starter at goalkeeper for the State University of New York at Fredonia. During her playing career, the Blue Devils earned their first NCAA regional ranking, won a SUNYAC playoff game for the first time in program history, and made three SUNYAC and three ECAC tournament appearances.

A three-time SUNYAC All-Conference Team selection, Scroger was also a three-time honoree on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner’s List. She was also named to the 2007 NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division III All-Region Team and the D3Kicks All-New York Region Team. Scroger holds six goalkeeping records at SUNY-Fredonia, including career goals-against average (1.03), single-season goals-against average (0.67), career shutouts (23) and career wins (37).

Scroger graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and New Media: Graphic Design from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She went on to earn a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Sports Management from Seton Hill University.
