Alex Vokes Macpherson

Alex Vokes Macpherson joined the Regis Athletics staff as head coach of the women's soccer program during the summer of 2022 and completed his first competition season at the helm in fall 2022. He led the Pride to an overall record of 10-6-2 (.611), including a 9-3-1 (.731) mark within the GNAC. The nine conference victories were the most in a single season in program history, and the team qualified for the GNAC Tournament as the fifth seed.

A holder of UEFA, USSF, and LMA coaching qualifications, he has coached at the professional, collegiate, high school, and youth levels.

Vokes Macpherson (first name pronounced "Alec") came to Regis after one year as the head coach of the Varsity Girls' Soccer program at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. He oversaw all aspects of the program as it participated in the highly competitive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), including player and team development, recruitment, video analysis, team building and culture, and program marketing.

Prior to Cushing, Vokes Macpherson served as assistant coach and recruitment coordinator at UMass Lowell from 2019 to 2021. He was part of the America East Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year for 2020-21 when the River Hawks hosted the America East Tournament and collected four major conference awards for their performance during the season.

Before joining the River Hawks staff, he served two seasons as an assistant coach with Boston University Women’s Soccer. A member of the 2018 Patriot League Coaching Staff of the Year, he helped guide the Terriers to the Patriot League Championship and an appearance at the NCAA College Cup. During the 2017 season, under his tutelage, Rachel Bloznalis was awarded Patriot League Defender of the Year and Patriot League All-First Team. Bloznalis now plays professionally with Djurgårdens IF Fotboll in Sweden and has represented the U-23 USWNT.

Alongside his role at BU, he was the International Partnership Executive for the professional soccer team Celtic Football Club. Vokes Macpherson was instrumental in the application of their youth academy methodology throughout a significant network of North American partner clubs.

He has also served as assistant coach and interim head coach for Wentworth Institute of Technology Women’s Soccer. He helped the program win its first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference championship in 2016. The first female program in school history to win a conference title eliminated nationally ranked Arcadia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Under his tutelage, Mary Pastorelli was named All-Region First Team, with Morgan Miller and Emily Richard named All-Region Third Team.

Vokes Macpherson's college coaching career began at Franklin Pierce University as a graduate assistant coach for the women's soccer team, helping the program reach the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in 2014.

Alongside his coaching role, Vokes Macpherson is also a volunteer member of the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association.

Vokes Macpherson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from Nottingham Trent University (England) before earning his Master of Business Administration in sports management from Franklin Pierce University in 2016.

Alex currently lives in Shrewsbury, Mass., with his wife Chelsie and their dog Echo.

The 2021 team qualified for the GNAC Tournament after posting a 5-5-2 record within the league. The Pride were led by Second Team All-GNAC defender Diego Roman.

The 2019 squad boasted two All-GNAC performers: Jared Barroso and Cesar Da Silva. In 2018, he helped the Pride post its fourth straight overall winning record at 8-6-2, starting with a 1-0 overtime victory at long-time rival Lesley. In addition, Sal Madera and Santiago Pedraza-Novak became the first Regis male student-athletes to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, and Madera became the second consecutive men's soccer player to receive the department's Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, following Scott Holcomb's selection in 2019-20.

Prior to Regis he served for 10 seasons as the Boys Head Varsity Soccer Coach for Weston High School where, in 2009, the team captured the MIAA Division 3 state title and Capobianco was named Boston Globe Coach of the Year.

Capobianco's previous college experience was in 1989 where for five seasons he was the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Cuyamaca College (CA). In 1991, he was named Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year.

From 1991-94, he served as Team Administrator for the Men's US National Team as it prepared for the 1994 World Cup. During this period, the US National Team played over 80 games in more than 24 countries, culminating in the 1994 World Cup that was held in the United States.

In 1995 he held the post of Deputy Competition Manager for the South Florida soccer venue of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

From 1996 through 2001, he worked in Major League Soccer as both an assistant coach (Tampa Bay Mutiny, New England Revolution) and as a Director of Soccer (San Jose Earthquakes, New England Revolution). In 1996, he was the Assistant Coach of the East Team of the MLS All-Star Game.

In 2002-03, he served as a Strength & Conditioning coach at Harvard University and is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He also holds an A License from US Soccer, a Premier Diploma from the NSCAA, and a Masters Degree In Exercise Science from San Diego State University.
