Amy Helliwell

Amy Helliwell enters her 14th year as Rose-Hulman women's soccer coach in 2022 after leading the Fightin' Engineers into their second and third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in program history in 2019 and 2022. She also enters her 6th year as the Senior Woman Administrator for the Rose-Hulman athletic department.


In 2022, Helliwell earned her third HCAC Coach of the Year award in 2022 after leading the Fightin' Engineers to a 10-3-6 record and 6-0-3 record in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers won the HCAC Tournament title at Hanover and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Ohio Northern on a goal in the 83rd minute. The Fightin' Engineers defense set records including 13 straight games without a loss, 8 consecutive clean sheets, and 865 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.


Helliwell was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in 2019 after leading Rose-Hulman to both the league regular season and conference tournament championships. The 2019 team finished 15-5-1 overall and 8-0-1 in league play, and did not lose a match from Sept. 21 until its 1-0 NCAA Tournament overtime loss on Nov. 16.


The 2019 squad featured both the HCAC offensive (Jessica Wells) and defensive (Christina Rogers) Most Valuable Player award winners. Rose-Hulman outscored the opposition 30-5 during the HCAC regular season to win the league title.


The most recent teams continued the tradition of excellence despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Rose-Hulman finished as the 2020-21 HCAC runner-up and compiled a 12-3-2 record with a 7-1-1 conference mark in 2021.


Helliwell's teams have a tradition of ranking among the top defensive squads in the nation. In 2013, the Fightin' Engineers finished No. 3 nationally with a .924 save percentage, and in 2014 the team was No. 5 nationally at .900. The 2015 team allowed just 20 goals for a 1.10 goals against average. In 2017, Rose-Hulman recorded seven shutouts and allowed just 21 goals in 18 matches.


Recent graduate Lucinda Combs completed a historic career in 2015 with school records of 40 wins, 36 shutouts, 464 saves, an .885 save percentage and a 0.78 goals against average. Defenders have also earned regional and national acclaim, highlighted by 2014 first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors for Mallory McDevitt.


Helliwell's teams have a 102-63-13 mark over the past eight seasons. In 11 years at Rose-Hulman, her career record stands at 122-96-14 overall and 69-37-8 in conference play.


In 2009, Helliwell inherited the program in August and led the Fightin' Engineers to a regular season conference championship. Rose-Hulman earned the top seed for the league tournament that year on the heels of a win at fellow league co-champion Hanover College. Eventual NCAA Tournament representative Transylvania University ended the magical run in the league tournament with a narrow 1-0 victory.


Helliwell came to Rose-Hulman after spending the last 11 years as head coach at Greenwood High School in Kentucky, where she led squad to six state Final Four appearances. Her teams combined for a 207-64-1 record with seven district championships, six regional and sectional titles, and the six Final Four appearances.


She also served as coach of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association All-Star Game in 2001, 2005 and 2008, and was named Southern Kentucky Soccer Referees Association Coach of the Year from 2001-05 and in 2008. Her career also includes serving as a mathematics teacher at Greenwood High School for 13 years.


In 2022, Helliwell was honored with a place in the Kentucky Girls High School Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame for her efforts as a prep coach.


Helliwell earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and secondary education from the University of Southern Indiana in 1996 and obtained a master's degree in education guidance counseling from Western Kentucky University in 2003. She was a four-year varsity soccer player, all-state honoree at team captain during her prep career at Evansville Reitz Memorial High School.


Helliwell and her husband Sean, the men's soccer coach at Rose-Hulman, reside in Terre Haute.

Kacey Baker

Baker enters her first year as an assistant women's soccer coach at the Rose-Hulman Insitute of Technology during the 2023 season.


Kacey takes over the assistant coach position following her time as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She was also the Head Coach of the Boston Bolts West Soccer Club and a member of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee during her time at Smith.


Baker is also a 2021 graduate of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a member of the women's soccer team for four years while starting at keeper during her junior and senior seasons.

A 2021 graduate of Coe College, Baker was a member of the women’s soccer team for four seasons and was a three year starting goalkeeper. During her time as a Kohawk, she made 72 saves in 20 games with just 22 goals allowed.


In 2019, she ranked 10th in goals against average in a single-season at 1.38.


For her career, Baker ranked 5th in school history in career wins at 14, 5th in career shutouts with 6, 6th in career goals against average at 1.48, 6th in goalie games played with 39, 7th in goalie games started with 19, 7th in goalie minutes played at 2,681, 8th in career saves with 141, 8th in career save percentage at .762, and 11th in career saves per game at 3.61.


Baker graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration & Sport Management with minors in Economics and French Language in 2021. She then earned her Master's degree from Smith College in Exercise and Sport Science in 2023.

Sean Helliwell

Sean Helliwell has led the Rose-Hulman men's soccer team to nine regular season conference championships, five NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and a 2013 NCAA Sweet Sixteen in his 15 seasons as head men's soccer coach.


Helliwell has compiled a record of 186-68-39 in 15 seasons, including a mark of 128-18-18 in matches against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents (counting the regular season and conference tournament). The Fightin' Engineers have won ten regular season conference championships (2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) and have also captured seven HCAC Tournament championships (2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2020, 2022).


The 2022 team reached the NCAA Tournament after a near-undefeated season as their lone loss came to Ohio Northern in the final regular season game. the Fightin' Engineers advanced to the NCAA Tournament before falling to #15 North Park in the first round. The Fightin' Engineers have finished the last three seasons 25-0-2 in HCAC play and have not lost an HCAC regular season game since October 16, 2019.


The 2021 squad became just the second Rose-Hulman men's soccer team to complete a perfectly unbeaten conference regular season. Rose-Hulman finished 12-5-1 overall and 9-0-0 in league play to improve its regular season record to 16-0-1 over the past two years.


The 2020 team was the first unbeaten squad in Rose-Hulman history. The Fightin' Engineers finished 9-0-1 and won both the HCAC regular season and conference tournament championship while completing 100 percent of their defined schedule during the Covid-19 pandemic.


The 2013 team enjoyed a magical run to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen, highlighted by a second round victory over No. 1 ranked and undefeated Ohio Wesleyan University. Rose-Hulman advanced to the NCAA second round with a penalty kicks victory at Penn State Behrend, then upset the top ranked Battling Bishops on their home field.


With the historic victory, Rose-Hulman advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen for the first time in men's soccer. The win also marked just the third time that any Rose-Hulman team had advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen.


In 2014 and 2015, the Fightin' Engineers battled nationally ranked Calvin (No. 4) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 13) to scoreless draws before failing to advance in the penalty kick round. Rose-Hulman won three consecutive HCAC Tournament championships, with every title game going into overtime.


The 2016 team featured another regular season conference championship and just the second undefeated and untied HCAC season in Coach Helliwell's era. The Fightin' Engineers also defeated then No. 7 ranked Wheaton 1-0 on its home field.


In 2017, Rose-Hulman continued its tradition of excellence by reaching the HCAC Tournament Championship Game for the fifth straight year before falling in double overtime. The 2018 team qualified for the HCAC Tournament before falling in the penalty kicks in the semifinal round.


In 2019, Rose-Hulman tied a single-season school record for wins with 16 and also tied for the HCAC regular season championship. The Fightin' Engineers advanced to the HCAC Tournament Championship Game before falling in penalty kicks on the road.


Helliwell has been named HCAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year by his peers nine times in his 13 seasons at the helm of the Fightin' Engineers. He also received Rose-Hulman's "Shining Star" Award at the 2013 Commencement dinner. The award recognizes the individual judged to be the top campus-wide staff member who has been with the Rose-Hulman community for five years or less.


Helliwell leads a Rose-Hulman program that has compiled a 188-70-37 record since 2006. Prior to coming to Rose-Hulman, he spent the previous two seasons as assistant coach at NCAA Division I Western Kentucky University.


Before accepting the Western Kentucky position, Helliwell served as the head soccer coach at Greenwood High School in Bowling Green, Ky. His record was 155-56-17 record in a tenure that featured nine district, four regional and two sectional championships. His 2004 squad placed second in the Kentucky State Tournament.


Helliwell is actively involved in the Olympic Development Program in Region 2 and is serving as the head coach for the 2000 Boys Regional team this year. He also served as head coach for the USA Division III Soccer Select Team which traveled to Brazil in the summer of 2014.


In his collegiate career, Helliwell played four seasons and served as team captain for three years at the University of Southern Indiana, prior to earning his bachelor's degree in 1995.


Helliwell and his wife Amy, the women's soccer coach at Rose-Hulman, reside in Terre Haute.

Pat DeLaney

Pat DeLaney enters his 1st season as assistant men's soccer coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology during the 2023 season.


DeLaney takes over the assistant coach position following his time as an assistant coach at The Phelps School on the East side of Philadelphia. He was also an assistant men's soccer coach at Haverford College, a Division III school in Pennsylvania.


Preceding his time at Haverford, DeLaney was an assistant women's soccer coach at Ursinus College. He also served as the Goalkeeper coach at FC Delco, a women's soccer club in Philadelphia. He coached goalkeepers at all levels from 8u to 19u during his time with the club.


DeLaney earned his Bachelor's degree in Sports & Rec Management with a minor in Business in 2020 from James Madison.
