Betty Bohringer

Betty Bohringer enters her sixth season as SUNY Old Westbury's head women's soccer coach in 2021. On June 22, 2016, Old Westbury director of athletics Lenore J. Walsh appointed Bohringer as the program's second-ever head coach.

"I am delighted to have Betty in place to continue our tradition of women’s soccer success,” said Walsh. “Betty has a tremendous appreciation of the student-athlete experience and I am confident in her leading the program to athletic and academic excellence.”

Last year, Bohringer has developed rising sophomore Brianna Williams as an All-Skyline Conference selection. Bohringer spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach for the Panthers and served as Old Westbury’s interim head coach from February to August 2016.

“We are going to create a competitive dynamic within our squad and challenge our student-athletes to perform with technique, strategies and persistence to overcome the opposition as we strive for success on the field and in the classroom," said Bohringer. “I thank Lenore J. Walsh for the opportunity to coach and lead the program."

Since arriving on campus in 2012, Bohringer assisted in the development of eight All-Skyline Conference selections, including the program’s second-ever Player of the Year honoree in 2014. Old Westbury was also awarded with the New York Metro Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NYMISOA) Sportsmanship Award in 2014.

In her role as interim head coach, Bohringer brought back 25 Old Westbury women’s soccer alumni student-athletes during her efforts to coordinate the inaugural 7-on-7 Alumni Soccer Tournament in April 2016. Bohringer and the Panthers also took part in community service projects during the Spring 2016 semester that included the removal of debris from local beaches and stabilizing sand dunes by planting dune grass.

Prior to her tenure at Old Westbury, Bohringer spent six seasons (2006-11) at NCAA Division II New York Institute of Technology, where she compiled a 31-38 record from 2008 to 2011 as head coach. As head coach at NYIT, Bohringer totaled a pair of All-East Coast Conference selections and one Rookie of the Year honoree.

Bohringer amassed a record of 83-50-18 from 1991 to 2005 with 10 New York State Class A playoff appearances coaching varsity girls soccer at Bethpage High School.

While enrolled at SUNY Cortland, Bohringer played basketball and softball as a student-athlete, where she received her bachelor's degree in physical education in 1989. Prior to her arrival at SUNY Cortland, she was a three-sport student-athlete in basketball, soccer and softball at Nassau Community College, where she received her associate's degree in physical education in 1987. Bohringer earned her master's degree in school health education from Adelphi University in 1992.

Since 1995, Bohringer has taught physical education in the Bethpage School District. She also spends her summers teaching physical education at Bethpage Public School District ESY, ABA autistic program and Summer BOCES Bethpage kindergarten physical education.

Bohringer currently resides in Bethpage, New York, with her husband Helms, and two boys, Kyle and Ryan.
