Joseph Machado

Joe Machado completed his fifth season as the Head Soccer Coach at Cobleskill. During the 2019 season, his team set a program record in league wins and winning percentage and tied to program record for most wins. His team finished with an overall record of 9-7-4, including 7-2-2 conference record. Cobleskill finished fourth in their conference, which was also a program best and hosted the programs first ever playoff home game. He coached five all-conference players that year, including one first-team selection (defender), three second-team selections (goal keeper, forward and midfielder) and one third-team selection (midfielder). His goal keeper, Rashawn Best, was named the Rookie of the Year.


For his fourth season in charge, Cobleskill made their first playoff appearance in program history. His overall record was 9-10-2, including a 6-4-1 conference record. He coached the defensive player of the year for the conference as well as two players who were first-team selections as a forward and defender and a third-team selection as a forward. His team defeated Keuka in penalty kicks to secure the first ever playoff win in program history. His team would go on to lose 2-3 to top seeded Penn State Abington who went on and won the conference championship. The team finished ranked 12th in the nation in goals scored that year.


The 2017 season saw Machado reach a 6-10-2 overall record and 4-5-1 in conference. After the season two of his players were named to the second team all-conference as a midfielder and defender.


In his second season the team improved its overall record by 8 wins going from 0-18 in 2015 to 8-9-2 in 2016 and qualifying for the first ever ECAC tournament in program history. This was the biggest turnaround in the nation for any Division 3 Men's soccer team.


Machado came to Cobleskill from 2014 NCAA Division III Men's "Final Four" participant Ohio Wesleyan University where he served as the program's First Assistant Coach after joining the Battling Bishops in 2013. During his time with Ohio Wesleyan; the program compiled a two-year mark of 36-4-7 capturing a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Regular Season Championships while making a pair of NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearances highlighted by their 2014 "Final Four" run.Machado was a three-year standout member and two-time captain of the men's soccer program at the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) in Riverdale, N.Y. where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and Business in 2009. During his career with the Dolphins he earned All-Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete honors and was the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for both CMSV and the Skyline Conference.


In 2012 he joined the coaching staff of Yeshiva University in New York, N.Y. as an assistant coach with both the men's and women's soccer programs serving as the goalkeeping coach while working in all coaching and organizational aspects of each program.


He began his college coaching career upon his graduation in 2009 at St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. as a graduate assistant coach where he earned his Master's Degree in Professional Studies in Sport Management and Coaching Leadership in 2010. While working in the areas of operations and scouting he helped the Red Storm to the 2011 Big East Tournament Championship and a NCAA Division I Tournament appearance.


In addition to working with Saint John's and Yeshiva University from 2009 thru 2013 Machado also served as the Head Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at Yonkers High School, in Yonkers, N.Y. where in 2010 he was named the Conference 2 League A Coach-of-the-Year while directing the Bulldogs program. He also currently holds a National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) National and Goalkeeping Level 3 Diploma.

Matt Williams

Matt Williams joined the SUNY Cobleskill staff in 2015 after graduating from SUNY Cortland with a bachelors in Exercise Science with a concentration Sport Studies. He later earned his M.S. Sports Management program at SUNY Cortland in 2020. He's in his seventh year with the Men's Soccer team and his third as Assistant Sports Information Director.


The Cobleskill-Richmondville High School alumnus has helped Head Coach Joe Machado turn the men's soccer program around in his seven years with the program helping the Orange & Black reach the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) playoffs in 2018 for the first time since 2009 advancing to the tournament’s quarterfinals followed by another NEAC playoff appearance in 2019. Williams was instrumental in program’s individual player development efforts which saw 10 Fighting Tiger players earn all-conference honors with on player earning NEAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors and one player earning NEAC Rookie-of-the-Year honors during his tenure.


After a stellar high school career at Cobleskill-Richmondville, Williams played college soccer at Springfield College for a season before transferring to SUNY Cortland. While at SUNY Cortland he played for three years with the Red Dragons and played in over 45 games. During his time with the program the team went to: two SUNYAC championship games, were nationally ranked and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III tournament. In 2014, his team made it to the Division III NCAA National Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.


Williams is currently entering his seventh year at SUNY Cobleskill and has worked in many areas of the Athletic Department including: Fitness Center Supervisor, Women's Basketball Assistant Coach, Men's Soccer Assistant Coach and Assistant Sports Information Director.
