TROJAN COACHING HISTORY

Kelsey Fenix Cameron (20221221 Press Release), the fifth women's soccer head coach at Trevecca, followed Mark Foster, Brett Armstrong, Mark Champion, and Stan Herod and became Trevecca's all-time winningest women's soccer coach (full story) with a 2-1 win over Lake Erie College on September 17, 2022. Cameron finished her career with a 50-37-18 overall record and a 43-23-12 conference mark. Her overall and conference wins are more than any other coach amassed.

During the 2018 campaign, Cameron directed the Trojans to a 13-4-2 overall record and a 11-2-2 showing in Great Midwest Conference (G-MAC) play. At the end of the season, Cameron was awarded the G-MAC Coach of the Year.

Her 17 conference wins and the 21 overall wins in her first two seasons are the most by any previous Trevecca coach in their first two seasons. Cameron's 12 conference wins this season are the most by any coach in program history.

In her first season (2017-2018), Cameron guided the Trojans to six conference wins, the most by a first-year head coach in school history. Her 8-6-3 overall record is the best record by a first-year TNU women's soccer head coach.

Mark Foster (20170104 Press Release) continued the success he and Armstrong built and made news of his own during his tenure as top coach. During his final season, the Trojans produced the second-most season wins in program history and their second regular-season Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship. Foster finished with a historic 40-27-8 record, making him the first coach in program history to have an overall record above .500. Foster guided Trevecca to three-straight winning seasons (2014-16), including a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) title in 2016. He was named G-MAC Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016.

Foster moved on to become a successful coach at the NCAA Division I level first as associate head coach at South Alabama then as head coach at Arkansas Little Rock and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Brett Armstrong (20130401 Press Release) changed the paradigm of the program on and off the pitch. Armstrong led the program to its first winning season overall and in conference play. In fact, his 16-win season in 2012-2013 is the most wins in a season for any TNU team. That team won the first-ever Great Midwest regular season and tournament championship. Armstrong finished as the winningest (44 wins) coach in program history. He brought on Mark Foster as an assistant and saw Foster replace him as head coach, providing continuity in the transition of leadership for the program. He was named the 2012 NCCAA Mid-East Coach of the Year and the 2012 Great Midwest Coach of the Year.

Mark Champion replaced Stan Herod and went 17-33-6 overall and 8-9-0 in league play.

Stan Herod started the program from scratch (2000-2001) while simultaneously restarting the men's program. He produced 20 wins in the women's program and setting the base for what was to come. He juggled leading the startup of both programs while playing and practicing off-campus. The men's program had a team for one season in 1992.

MARK ELLIOTT ON HIRING HARRELL

Trevecca director of athletics, Mark Elliott, said of his most recent hire, "Finding the right coach is an arduous and time-consuming process, especially when receiving over 100 applicants. But the good news is when you find someone who fits the identity and culture of your program, it stands out above the chaos. Nathan and Bess are family-first, relationship-oriented, and missional-minded in the Trevecca Athletics tradition of Christian-Scholar-Athlete. We found them to be the right fit to grow the legacy created by our NCAA era coaches like Brett Armstrong, Mark Foster, and Kelsey Fenix Cameron."

HARRELL ON JOINING THE PURPLE AND WHITE

Harrell on the process of becoming Trevecca's new women's soccer coach, "My family and I are excited and blessed to be joining the Trevecca family and taking over the Trojan women's soccer program. It has been a great experience getting to know Mark Elliott, the Trojan Athletic staff, and everyone on the Hill during this process. The dedication to Christian-Scholar-Athlete mirrors our mission and goals for the women's soccer program and our coaching philosophy. The hard work and heart Kelsey Cameron and Mark Foster put into this program established a great tradition we are thrilled to build upon."

Leah Hoffman

Leah Hoffman joined the women's soccer coaching staff prior to the 2022 season following four seasons on the pitch for Trevecca. Hoffman was a staple in the Trojans' defense throughout her career as the rightback was twice named G-MAC Defender of the Year as a Trojan. As a junior, Hoffman scored her only two career goals, was a member of the Great Midwest All-Conference first team, and later was selected to the Div. II CCA All-Midwest Region team for her efforts. Hoffman's senior season saw her secure a spot on the Great Midwest All-Conference second team after logging the most minutes on the pitch for outfielders. Hoffman will serve as a graduate assistant.

Danny Leavy

Danny Leavy is the fourth Trevecca men's soccer coach in the history of the Trojan program.

LEAVY FILE (history)

First Season | 2009-2010

Leavy set the Trevecca wins record as a coach on Sept. 13, 2013, when TNU defeated Trinity International University, a team coached by Leavy's former college coach, Coach Gilliam, 3-2 in double overtime. His predecessor, Jeff Carr, held the career wins record with 30.

83-122-11 Overall

48-76-5 Conference

42-61-4 Great Midwest / 6-15 TranSouth

LEAVY ERA AWARDS | NCAA D2/GREAT MIDWEST (awards)

During the NCAA and Great Midwest Athletic Conference era, the Trojans have earned several awards for Leavy and the program.

He has five G-MAC first-team selections, ten named to the second team, and one on the third team. Two of his student-athletes have been voted a CoSIDA Academic All-District player. There have been four G-MAC players of the week. In addition, he has produced five players on the G-MAC all-freshmen team.

LEAVY ERA | YEAR-BY-YEAR (history)

In the first fall season in two years, the Trojans started with the best conference start in program history. It is the first time a men's soccer team had not lost a match in their first three conference matches. The overall start, 3-1-1, was the best start since the 2012-2013 team started 4-0-1. Unfortunately, the team only managed two more wins before the season concluded. Michael Jones led the team with six goals and 13 points. Freshman Ben Singer finished with five goals and 11 points, second-most on the team in both categories.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trojans would see their 2020 season pushed to the spring of 2021. Despite only collecting a 3-8 overall and 2-7 record in the Great Midwest, the Trojans' season was still historic. Not only did the Trojans defeat a nationally ranked opponent, but they did also so twice. First, the Trojans handed #25 Lake Erie a 1-0 loss to win their first conference victory. Jonas Grossman collected Great Midwest Defender of the Week for the performance, but the Trojans were not done. Five days later, it was no joke that the Trojans beat conference rivals and #19 ranked Cedarville by the same 1-0 result to improve to 2-0 in conference play. In the NCAA era, the Trojans' first-ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent came in 2018 when #2 Ohio Valley University lost to the Trojans, 1-0.

The 2019 band of the Trojans saw 11 freshmen join the first team in a year; the squad went 4-12-1 and 3-10-1 in Great Midwest competition. Before the 2019-20 season, Trevecca men's soccer added a junior varsity program, allowing coach Leavy to recruit and pull from a deeper assortment of talent. Freshman midfielder Michael Martey earned a spot on the G-MAC Honorable mention team with three goals and one assist.

Trevecca won eight games for just the second time in Leavy's tenure in 2018. The Trojans' seven conference wins tied the most a Danny Leavy-led squad has ever had, matching the exact total from 2017. The Trojans got off to a hot start winning five of their first eight matches, capped by a win over nationally-ranked G-MAC foe #2 Ohio Valley University. The Trojans received the game's lone goal from senior Ethan Keogh to hold the Fighting Scots to a 1-0 result on their home pitch in the second half. The 8-7-1 (7-7) mark is the best winning percentage Leavy has had at Trevecca.

Leavy completed his ninth season as Trojans head coach following the 2017 campaign. On Oct. 7, 2017, the Trojans defeated the new G-MAC school, Lake Erie 4-3 in overtime, handing Leavy his 60th career win as Trojans' head coach. Leavy and his Trojans protected the home pitch in 2017, winning six games. The only loss at home was to the eventual G-MAC conference champion, Ohio Valley, who did not lose a conference game this season. Leavy's Trojans finished 7-8-2 overall, losing to the University of Findlay 3-1 in the Great Midwest Championships quarterfinals.

In 2016 the Trojans gave coach Leavy his 50th career win. The team finished fifth of the eight teams in the league. TNU advanced to the Great Midwest Championships but fell to Alderson Broaddus 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

The 2015 Trojans finished with seven wins, five of those in G-MAC conference play. However, the Trojans were eliminated from the G-MAC tournament in a double-overtime loss to Ohio Valley University.

During the 2014 season, Leavy led the Trojans to five wins, three of which were G-MAC conference wins. As a result, the Trojans earned their way to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals.

Leavy coached Noah Mudd to garner G-MAC Freshmen of the Year honors and Jeremiah Wright, Juan Egas, and Brayden Brown to the All-Conference first team. Bruno De Moraes and Ryan Walls made All-Conference second team.

In 2013, Leavy guided his team to eight wins, with five coming in G-MAC play. As a result, the Trojans qualified for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

Leavy coached Jeremiah Wright to G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors. Wright tallied nine goals and seven assists and finished with the fifth-highest point total in TNU single-season history (25).

Also, during the season, for the first time in Trevecca history, midfielder Connor Inman was named to the Capital One Academic, All American team.

The 2011 and 2012 teams each produced nine wins, equalling the second-most wins in a season at Trevecca.

LEAVY ERA AWARDS | NAIA/TRANSOUTH/NCCAA (awards)

Leavy's first three teams produced several individual honors as members of the NAIA and the TranSouth Athletic Conference.

There were 26 TranSouth Scholar-Athlete honors and two NAIA scholar-athlete honors.

Four times a player was named the TranSouth defensive player of the week.

In addition, there was a first-team All-TranSouth honoree, and three players made the second team.

During the transition to the NCAA Division II level, Leavy saw five of his players earn NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors.

TREVECCA COACHES BEFORE LEAVY (history)

Trevecca had a men's soccer program for one season during the 1991-1992 school year. Jon Curtis coached the team that season. Trevecca hired Stan Herod to bring back men's soccer for the 2000-2001 school year. Herod led the program for four seasons before Jeff Carr, who is now at East Florida State College.
