Susan Grant

Susan Grant enters her 13th season as head coach of the women’s soccer team at the United States Coast Guard Academy.


Grant, the longest tenured coach in program history, has a career record of 69-128-10, and became the first coach in program history to eclipse 50 wins in 2017.


A 1995 graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cortland with a degree in Physical Education, has a wide variety of coaching experience, having coached women’s soccer, lacrosse and field hockey at several levels.


Grant, who played both soccer and basketball for NCAA Division III power, SUNY Cortland, also earned her Masters degree in Health Education from Cortland in 1998.


Grant holds both a National Diploma and a state goalkeeping diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Chris Parsons

Chris Parsons enters his 18th season as the head soccer coach.


Parsons has a 17-year record at CGA of 148-128-40 and has led the Bears to postseason play in 13 of his 17 seasons (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017), including the program's first NCAA tournament berth in 33 years in 2014, just the third NCAA appearance all-time for the men's soccer team. Parsons also led the Bears to the ECAC Division III New England Championship in 2008 and again in 2012.


Parsons was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 2014 as the team went 13-3-3 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play. 13 regular season victories is the most in program history. The team was ranked as high as 14th nationally and 2nd in New England during this historic season. Parsons was also named NEWMAC Coach of the Year in 2007 along with 2012.


During his 26 year head coaching career, Parsons has amassed 232 victories including 188 NCAA wins. Parsons was the head coach at Vassar College for five years (1997-2001) where he compiled a 40-37-5 record including back-to-back ECAC Tournament berths in 1997 and 1998 and a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 1999.


Prior to Vassar, Parsons was the head coach at Champlain College, a junior college in Vermont from 1993-1996. His team won the 1996 NJCAA Region III Championship. In 1995, he was named the NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year as his team was the Region III runners-up. He had a four-year record of 44-20-4 at Champlain College.


Chris was an NSCAA first-team All-America at Middlebury College where he earned a degree in Economics. He earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management at UMass in 1990. Parsons holds NSCAA Advanced National, National and Professional Diplomas. Parsons was inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame in January of 2017.


In addition to coaching the men’s soccer team, Parsons also serves as an Associate Athletic Director and is an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Division at CGA.
