James Island Cup Moves to Thanksgiving Weekend
The tradition of youth soccer in the Lowcountry after Thanksgiving has returned. From 1984-2005, the Charleston Thanksgiving Soccer Shootout was played over the holiday weekend. The JIYSC Board voted to move its annual James Island Cup, previously held on the weekend before Thanksgiving, one week later citing several reasons: 1) improved field availability to accommodate anticipated growth, 2) opens door for teams from more states to travel on Friday, 3) lower room rates, and 4) eases competition for teams in key markets such as Charlotte, Atlanta, Savannah, Raleigh and Greenville that all host youth tournaments on the week before Thanksgiving.
Last year, 213 teams participated. Over 300 teams are expected for 2012 with an economic impact to the local community of $1.5 million.

WFT affiliated leagues will also have the opportunity to host 1-day tournaments.

Like the 3v3 Tour, there will be 3 stages in the tour as it grows: Local-State-World Cup. Leagues can get in touch with WFT by emailing us at support@worldfutboltour.com .
