Camero Bio

On Tuesday and Thursdays at Prudie Park off of Three Rivers Rd, you can find Doctor Camero and his ever changing group of soccer players who love the “Beautiful Game.” They play not for money or awards or even recognition, but for the love of the Game. Whether rain, heat, coldness, or holiday’s nothing has seemed to stop this 30 plus year trend.

There are no age or gender restrictions. Doesn’t matter if your rich, poor, black, white, brown, or where you came from as long as you enjoy the GAME your welcomed. Because of Dr. Camero loves to play and he loves to see people play.

Dr. Francisco Camero of Gulfport, a native of Columbia, organized the first pick-up game in 1978 at Gulfport’s Milner Stadium with the assistance of his comrade, Dr. Ozerden of Turkey (R.I.P.). Since then the game has moved along the coast to now reside at Prudie Park in Gulfport.

Dr. Camero’s love of the game is what keeps him a very young 68 year old. As a Doctor he practices what he preaches. When it comes to weight control, healthy heart, and moveable joint system Dr. Camero definitely practices what he prescribes. He has no problem running the 2hour duration of soccer with no breaks.

Dr. Camero’s dedication to soccer is endless. “His secret,” he said, “is never stop.”

The dedication that Dr. Camero has presented since 1978 is one of many reason we are dedicating this soccer tournament to him. Thanks Doc for all and the many more memories.
