Shamus Matthews

The Albright athletic department has announced the hiring of Shamus Matthews to lead the women's soccer program as the teams next head coach. Matthews is the 8th head coach all time of the program.


Shamus Matthews has a wealth of soccer experience coaching at the collegiate and high school levels while also working with various New Jersey soccer clubs over his coaching tenure.


"Coach Matthews has a tremendous coaching background which will make for a seamless transition stepping into the role of head coach for our women's soccer program. Matthews brings a great balance of enthusiasm to the field and understanding of the Division III philosophy for our athletes." Said, Athletic Director Rick Ferry, "I am excited to have Coach Matthews as a part of Albright athletics and am looking forward to seeing him lead the team this fall."


During the 2024 season, Matthews was the head coach of Union College in New Jersey. At Union College, Matthews was tasked with rebuilding the program and made great strides in his first year winning three of the last four games to end the season.


"Being named the head women's soccer coach at Albright College is truly a dream come true and a moment of immense pride for me. Joining the Albright athletic staff is an incredible honor, and I am thrilled to serve the college alongside a department filled with passionate, dedicated individuals who share my commitment to developing young people into the best versions of themselves, both on and off the field", said coach Matthews. "As I begin this exciting new chapter in my coaching career, I am eager to work with and learn from my colleagues, while bringing fresh energy and vision to the women's soccer program. Together with my coaching staff, we are ready to embrace this new era and lead the program toward a bright and successful future. The journey ahead is full of promise, and I am deeply honored to be part of it."


While coaching at Union College Matthews was heavily involved in the Princeton FC soccer club. Matthews played a key role in the development and the overall success of the club. His main role was helping players and their families in their next steps of college recruitment.


From 2021-2024, Matthews was the head coach of Allentown high school boys' soccer program in New Jersey. In his second season as head coach, he led the team to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 3 Sectional Finals while amassing 27 wins over his tenure at the school.


In addition to his head coaching roles, Matthews has served as a coach for the New Jersey Olympic Development Program, coached with the New Jersey Surf soccer club and spent time as the Director of Coaching of the Liverpool FC International Academy.


Matthews is a graduate of Moravian College with a degree in studio arts while later going on to earn his teaching certificate from Monmouth University.

Khanh Nguyen

Khanh Nguyen has been an assistant women's soccer coach at Albright College since 2003.


Nguyen, who is a Berks County native, was a four year starter and All-Conference selection at Muhlenberg High School. After graduating from Muhlenberg, Nguyen continued his playing career at Penn State University, where he played for two seasons.


The 2018 season saw the Lions women's soccer team achieve program milestones. The team set a single-season program record with 14 wins, and advanced to the ECAC Championship game for the first time in school history. Albright also qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament for the fifth straight year, and made the semifinal round for the first time since 2011.


Four players earned All-MAC Commonwealth honors led by three first-team selections Lauren Haley, Erica Bross, and Autumn Bieber. Bross also earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors for a second-straight season.


In 2017, Albright tallied its most wins in a single season since 2005 with 12 and the Lions advanced to the ECAC Tournament Semifinals in program history. With a 12-9-1 record overall and a 4-3-1 record in conference play, the Lions also qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament for the fourth straight year and six out of seven years.


Three Lions players made earned All-MAC Commonwealth honors with two of them earning first-team accolades. Albright also had its first player earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors with junior defender Erica Bross garnering third-team all-region honors.


In 2016, the Lions reached the MAC Commonwealth Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons. The Lions finished with an 11-9-1 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in conference play. Albright fell in the opening round of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament with a 1-0 loss at Lebanon Valley, but the Lions reached the ECAC Tournament for the third time in the last six years. The Lions defeated Neumann, 6-0, before falling to Kean, 2-1.


Nguyen helped four players to All-MAC Commonwealth honors. Sophomore Erica Bross led that group with a selection to the First Team.


The 2012 Lions qualified for both the Commonwealth and ECAC South championships, for the second consecutive year each.


In 2011, Albright went 9-5-5, with three of those losses coming against nationally-ranked teams (including two to eventual national champion Messiah). The Lions qualified for the Commonwealth Conference tournament and then beat Swarthmore in the ECAC South playoffs on the way to a semifinal appearance.


The 2010 season saw continued success for the Red and White as they tied nationally-ranked conference opponent Widener University.


In 2009, the Lions made the Commonwealth Conference tournament for the second time in five years. The 2008 campaign Stanco featured a 7-10 overall record, and a five-game win streak in the middle of the season.


When not coaching the Lions, Nguyen serves as the president and coaches a premier team, Manchester United which is part of ACFC Soccer Academy. Nguyen currently holds several United States Soccer Federation (USSF) licenses, as well as a NSCAA diploma. With over 18 years of coaching experience, Nguyen has helped to develop players at all levels from youth all the way to some of the top premier teams in the state.

Vicente Farina

Vicente Farina brings a wealth of experience in player development, operations, and recruitment to the Albright Women’s Soccer program. With a strong background coaching at the youth, collegiate, and ODP levels, Vicente has a proven ability to enhance player growth and team success both on and off the field.


He has served as Project Manager of Operations and ODP Coach at New Jersey Youth Soccer, overseeing strategic initiatives, coaching elite players, and leading innovative programs. Most recently, Vicente was the Assistant Coach for Union College Women’s Soccer, where he helped expand the roster, improve team performance, and guide players to individual recognition.


A former collegiate player and highly credentialed coach (USSF C License, La Liga Level 2 Methodology), Vicente’s focus at Albright will center on driving recruitment efforts to build a competitive program while fostering player development and community engagement.
