C.W. Ponton

C.W. Ponton will be entering his first season as the Cape Fear Women's Soccer Head Coach as of 2022 after completing six seasons on the men's side at Cape Fear and his eighth on the collegiate level.


Serving as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Cape Fear from 2016-2021 Coach Ponton tallied 26 victories, 17 all region awards, second most goals in a season (2019 with 55), and top three most goals and assists in a game (9/21/19, 10/19/19, and 10/20/18), and was able to assist in 12 Sea Devils moving on to four year schools to date.


In 2015 Coach Ponton served as the First Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach for the Andrew College Fighting Tigers Men's Soccer team who were ranked as high as 16th in NJCAA Division I men's soccer polls. Prior to this in the spring of 2015, Coach Ponton served as the Jefferson Forest Middle School Head Girls Soccer Coach for one season.


During the 2014-2015 school year, Coach Ponton served as an Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach with the Lynchburg College Hornets Women's Soccer team. That season, Coach Ponton helped guide the Hornets to a record of 27-0-1 winning the 2014 NCAA DIII Women's National Championship, only allowing five total goals on the season. During the spring 2014 campaign, Coach Ponton assisted as an Academy Coach for Central Virginia United located in Lynchburg, Virginia.


In 2013 Coach Ponton led Caroline County High School (VA), the school where he lettered and graduated from as the Head Boys' Varsity and Head Boys' Junior Varsity Soccer Coach. From 2005-2017, Coach Ponton served in multiple recreation leagues, camps, schools, and academies as an Assistant Director, Head Coach, and Official.


Coach Ponton currently holds his NSCAA National and Goalkeeping Level 3 Diploma.

Deb Hare

Deb Hare signed on as the Sea Devils Women's Soccer Assistant Coach in June of 2022. Coach Hare comes to Wilmington after her longstanding career as Head Women's Soccer Coach at Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota. While at RCTC, she was the NJCAA 3rd Winningest coach in Division III and 5th for Divisions I-III for all coaches active and inactive. Hare's resume consists of winning the Region XIII title 13 times, appearing in the Region XIII finals 18 times, and earning 3rd place in the NJCAA National Tournament 3 times. She is a 13-time Region XIII Coach of the Year and earned USA Soccer Coaching Association Centeral Coach of the Yeare accolades in '08, '10, and '11.


Prior to her time at RCTC, Hare has been a Head Coach for both the North Carolina and Minnesota Olympic Development programs for a total of 10 years, as well as an Assistant coach for Division II Winona State University for two seasons.


Hare's playing career took her initially to High Point University as a Goalkeeper - where she earned Freshman of the Year, All-Conference, and All-Tournament Team honors throughout her 3-year career. She finished her collegaite career at Winona State University and earned All-Tournament Team, All-Conference, All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-American honors. A North Carolina native, Hare grew up in Raleigh and played for the Raleigh Spatrans and for Sanderson High School. Hare still holds the record for least goals allow in a season for North Carolina High School league with only allowing one for the regular season and a second goal in the post season during the State Championship that led Sanderson won in 1991.


Deb resides in Hampstead, NC with her son Charlie and her dog Daisy.
