Nick Brown

Nick Brown enters his ninth season as head coach of the Catawba women's soccer program in the fall of 2023. Brown ranks second in program history with 82 career victories, with 34 wins in the last two seasons alone. Under Brown, Catawba has returned to national prominence, earning a spot in 19 consecutive USC Top 25 polls including a program-best national ranking of 7th in October 2021. After a 10-year absence of NCAA regional action, Catawba has appeared in four of the last five NCAA tournaments.


The program broke through in 2021, as Catawba swept the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament titles with an undefeated regular season record while earning hosting duties for the first time in program history. The team hosted again in 2022, picking up their first NCAA Tournament victory in 14 years. Brown is 1-2-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.


Brown took the reigns of the Catawba College Women's Soccer Program in the spring of 2015. A former player for the Catawba men’s team, Brown had served as an assistant with the women’s program since 2010. Prior to becoming Catawba's head coach he was at the helm at Lake Norman High School.


While at the helm, Brown has coached five All-American selections, four Academic All-Americans, seven Academic All-District selections and two SAC Elite 20 Award winners. He has mentored 16 All-Region selections, eight First team, six Second Team and two Third Team honorees, along with 40 being named to an all-conference team. He has coached four SAC Defensive Players of the Year, one SAC Offensive Player of the Year And two SAC Freshmen of the Year. Brown himself swept SAC and Region Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons in 2020 and 2021.


After Brown graduated from Catawba in 2005, he served as an assistant with the men’s program while earning a master’s degree from High Point. As a player at Catawba, Brown was a two-year captain and helped the Indians to a pair of conference tournament titles. In 2004, he earned all-tournament honors. Brown also helped Catawba to a spot in the NCAA Tournament. He was a standout at St. Michael’s College High School and is a native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada.


While an assistant at Catawba, Brown also coached at the high school level at Lake Norman and West Rowan High School. He is currently on staff with the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club, coaching the 04 LKN Blue. He previous spent time with the Lake Norman Soccer Club, winning the 2017 State Cup Championship with the '00 Eclipse Elite.


Brown was named the 2014 North Piedmont Conference and Region 7 Coach of the Year while at Lake Norman as he led the Wildcats to a league title. Prior to his move to Lake Norman, Brown helped West Rowan to three consecutive conference championships.


Brown was named the North Piedmont Conference Coach of the Year from 2010-13 while at West Rowan and earned Region 7 Coach of the Year honors in 2010, 2012 and 2013. He was the North Carolina 3A State Coach of the Year in 2013.


Brown earned a degree in mathematics from Catawba in 2005. He received his master’s degree from High Point in sports studies in 2009.


Brown resides in Statesville with his wife, Julia. They have a two sons, Kade and Nolan.

Colin Wylie

Colin Wylie enters his third season as the assistant women’s soccer coach and the head coach of the development team in the fall of 2023.


With Wylie on staff, Catawba is 34-3-6 and won the 2021 South Atlantic Conference regular season and conference tournament championships while earning hosting duties in the NCAA Regional in both seasons.


A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Wylie arrived at Catawba College in the summer of 2021 after spending the 2020-2021 year as the assistant women’s soccer coach with Nova Southeastern University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Prior to his time in Florida, he served as the assistant women at Francis Marion University (Florence, S.C.) during the 2019 season, helping guide the Patriots to an overall record of 8-8-1, setting the program’s best single season mark in 11 years. His responsibilities included training the goalkeepers, assisting with outfield player coaching, Coordination of student-athlete recruiting, arranging team travel, game day personnel management, maintaining equipment inventory and organization of compliance administrative forms.


Wylie also served as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer program at his alma mater, Ottawa University from 2015 to 2017 whilst earning his master’s degree. His responsibilities included assisting in running practices, recruiting, academic support, organizing team travel, scouting, and serving as the head coach of the junior varsity squad. The Braves improved upon their previous season’s win total in each of his two years with the program. After graduating, he also served as an assistant coach with Kaw Valley FC, a Sporting KC developmental partner and USL League 2 organization in 2018.


Further coaching experience includes a wealth of youth coaching experience, having worked with Sporting Kaw Valley, a youth program affiliated with Sporting Kansas City and working as an assistant coach with the Neosho County Community College women’s soccer program in Chanute, Kan.


He earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Ottawa University in 2010, and a master’s degree in education in 2017.


He holds a USSF National C Coaching License, an NSCAA Goalkeeper Level 3 Diploma, and an NSCAA National Diploma.
