Oscar Zelaya

7th Year as Head Men's Soccer Coach

Zelaya enters his seventh season as Head men's soccer coach at Dodge City Community College, taking on that role in December of 2016. Prior to being named head coach, Zelaya was on staff as the assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at Dodge City Community College from 2012-2016.


During his six seasons at the helm of the Conquistador men's soccer program he has amassed a record of 51-33-10 with his most wins coming in his second, third, and sixth seasons in 2018, 2019, and 2022 when the team posted a 10-5-3, a 10-3-2, and a 10-7 record. Zelaya has notched a winning record leading the Conquistadors in five of the six seasons as head coach for the men. In the 2019 season Zelaya was recognized as KJCCC West "Coach of the Year," while in 2021 he helped led the team to host their first home playoff game since 2014. During the 2022 season the program was ranked in the NJCAA Top 20 nationally for the first time under Zelaya.


In his six seasons leading the Conquistadors he's had seven players earn All-Region VI honors and 35 players pick up All-Conference honors in the KJCCC.


Zelaya had a distinguished playing career. He spent two years at Rogers State University, playing for the Hillcats at the NCAA Division II level.


He also is familiar with the Jayhawk conference, playing at Garden City Community College for two years. While there, he played a big role, helping to lead them to nationals and a fourth-place finish. He was named to KJCCC All Conference-First team in 2008 as a defender.


He also was able to parlay his college successes into professional stints, playing in the Southern Premier Soccer League in Oklahoma, the Premier Development League in Missouri, and the Semi-Pro Indoor League.


Zelaya received his Associate’s degree in Science from Garden City Community College and his Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management through Rogers State University. He holds a diploma from the National Soccer Association of America and a number of other licenses for coaching younger players.


Zelaya and his wife, Leydi Zelaya, have two children. A son, Santiago, and a daughter, Chelsea.
