Andrew Mathys

The University of Dubuque has named Andrew Mathys as the head men’s soccer coach and just the fourth men’s coach in the school’s history.

"I am honored to be named the next Head Coach at the University of Dubuque,” commented Mathys. “I want to thank Nelson Edmonds, Vice President of Student Engagement and Intercollegiate Athletics, for entrusting me with this opportunity and everyone who has supported and guided me throughout my life. The University of Dubuque has a winning tradition and elite athletic facilities that will allow us to win at the highest level. I am thrilled to start working with the student-athletes and continue to move the program forward."

Prior to joining UD, Mathys was an assistant at Loras College (2024), an assistant at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio (2023-2024), an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams at UW-Platteville (2021-23) 2021. He has been involved in all aspects of the soccer programs along with coaching the goalkeepers.

As a student-athlete at Central College in Pella, Iowa, he helped lead the Dutch to their first conference title and NCAA tournament berth in school history in 2019. During the season, the Dutch knocked off nationally-ranked Luther (#8) and Loras (#9) in back-to-back games to catapult themselves into their first and highest regional rank (#1) and later their first and highest national rank (#12).

Mathys compiled three conference player of the week honors, along with All-Conference and All-Region awards in 2019. After college, Mathys returned home and served as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Dekalb High school while also playing Semi-Pro for Dekalb County United in the Midwest Premier League in 2021. In 2022, Mathys served as an assistant coach and the goalkeeper coach for Dekalb County United.

An Elburn, Illinois native, Mathys graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with a bachelor's degree in history and a minor in political science (2020) and completed his master's degree in sport administration from UW-Platteville (2023). He resides in Dubuque.
