Filipe Barateiro

Filipe Barateiro is entering his second year as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Emory & Henry College and his third year with the program. He spent the 2021 season as an assistant on Lisa Buckley's staff, helping lead the team to a 9-3-2 record and the best winning percentage in program history.

A native of Cascais, Portugal, Barateiro joined the Wasps' coaching staff from King (Tenn.) University, where he was both the men's & women's assistant/goalkeeper coach for the 2020-21 academic year. He was responsible for planning practices, producing game plans for opposing teams and monitoring academic eligibility. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Barateiro was also responsible for recruiting and fundraising.

During his time as an undergraduate, Barateiro also coached in the Knox County (Ky.) school system. He spent the 2019-20 at Knox County Middle as the head boys' soccer coach and the 2018-19 season in the same role at Knox County High School.

Barateiro coached with Dragon Force Youth Academy of F.C. Porto, one of the largest youth academies in Portugal from August 2015 to July 2017. He worked with the U-10, U-16 and U-18 teams, also selecting and coordinating interns for the U-10 program.

As a player, Barateiro was a three-year starter in goal for Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. During his time with the Bulldogs, he helped lead the team to the Appalachian Athletic Conference title in 2019 and a spot in the NAIA National Tournament. Over his career, Barateiro earned 14 wins, made 133 saves and had a 1.38 goals-allowed average. He also played academy soccer for Groupo Desportivo Estoril Praia in Lisbon, Portugal from 2001 to 2020.

Barateiro earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from Union in 2020 and a Master of Business Administration from King (Tenn.) University in 2021. He holds National "C," "D" and "F" Licenses as well as 11v11 and 9v9 Grassroots Licenses from the United States Soccer Federation and is currently pursuing his "B" License.

It has been extremely helpful in allowing me to locate schools in a certain geography or division. Having information about the coaches and lacrosse program gave me added background without hours of research!
