Joseph Tibbs

Joseph Tibbs, a seasoned and accomplished soccer coach, assumed the role of Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Fisk University in August of 2023. With a wealth of experience spanning club, collegiate, Olympic Development Program (ODP), and high school levels, Tibbs brings a dynamic approach to developing scholar-athletes both on and off the field.

Before joining Fisk University, Tibbs left an indelible mark as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Clarks Summit University in Northeast Pennsylvania. During his tenure, he led the Defenders to unprecedented heights, guiding the program to its most successful season in the NCAA DIII era. Notably, under his guidance, the Defenders secured a coveted spot in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament after an extended hiatus. Furthermore, his coaching prowess led to 10 student-athletes receiving prestigious CSAC post-season honors in 2022.

From 2019 to 2022, Tibbs held the dual role of Director of Soccer and Head Coach for both the men's and women's programs at Talladega College. He spearheaded transformative changes, introducing Graduate and Student Assistant positions to elevate the program's effectiveness. Tibbs strategically expanded his coaching team by enlisting the first-ever Goalkeeping Coach and Director of Soccer Operations. Under his guidance, Talladega College's soccer programs garnered over 40 awards and honors, including selections to the All-Academic Team, GCAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and All-Conference recognition.

Tibbs' coaching journey extends to notable stints at the University of Maine-Machias and Fisher College, where he orchestrated significant achievements. His leadership catalyzed athletes to attain All-Conference recognition, Player of the Year awards, All-Academic Team distinctions, and several USCAA All-American team selections. His tenure at Fisher College reached historic proportions as his coaching led the team to clinch the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) Championship in 2018, etching their place in program history.

Tibbs' coaching acumen spans the NCAA Division I, II, and III echelons, enriched by assistant coaching roles at institutions like Cal State East Bay, Southern Virginia, St. Bonaventure, Southern Connecticut State, and Central Connecticut State Universities. Beyond the collegiate realm, Tibbs extended his influence as head coach or staff member for ODP teams across multiple states, including Alaska, Connecticut, Eastern New York, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Virginia.

His career further evolved as a professional staff coach with South Central Premier Soccer Club in Connecticut from 2008 to 2011. Tibbs boasts a commendable record of coaching players who transitioned to the USSDA program, now MLS NEXT, and many who pursued their soccer careers at NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.

Tibbs' quest for knowledge and excellence is exemplified by his array of coaching licenses, including the Football Association of Wales (FAW) C Certificate, U.S. Soccer National C License, U.S. Soccer National Youth License, USC Advanced National Diploma, and USC Director of Coaching Diploma. Furthermore, his deep involvement in summer camp operations allowed him to collaborate with some of college soccer’s most distinguished coaches, leaving a lasting mark on the landscape of the sport.
