Kim DeCesare

Franklin College director of athletics Kerry Prather has announced the appointment of Kim DeCesare as the new head coach of the women's soccer program, effective July 31, 2019.

A 2013 graduate of Duke University, DeCesare joins the Grizzlies after spending time on the staff at Elon University. Prior to joining the college coaching ranks, she spent four years playing professionally following a decorated playing career for the Blue Devils.

"It is an honor to have been announced the women's soccer head coach at Franklin College. I want to thank Coach Prather and the search committee for the trust that they have in me to lead the women's soccer program. From the time I stepped on campus, I could feel the sense of community and pride that it brings. I am very excited to work with driven and hard-working student-athletes who treat each other with respect."

A four-year letter winner at Duke, DeCesare was a two-time All-ACC selection and was a tri-captain in each of her final two seasons with the Blue Devils. Over a playing career that spanned 93 matches, she tallied 29 goals and handed out 15 assists and finished her career sixth on the program's goal-scoring list and ninth among the ranks of all-time point scorers.

Following graduation, she embarked on a professional career, playing in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) for the Boston Breakers (2014) and Sky Blue FC (2015-17). Her professional career also included stops with Eskilstuna United DFF in Sweden's top women's league in 2014, before closing in 2018 following one year in The Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.

"We are excited to welcome Kim DeCesare to the Griz family," Prather added. "I am confident she will sustain and enhance the success of our women's soccer program. From her inspiring playing career at Duke and professionally abroad to her extensive club coaching through her most recent work on the staff at Elon University, Kim has been respected for her tenacious work ethic and dedication to the game. She is extremely organized and committed to player development. She brings a contagious energy and enthusiasm to which I know our current and future Grizzlies will respond in kind."

DeCesare is anxious to get started with the Grizzlies when camp opens in a few weeks.

"I feel that this program can be highly successful and that the college attracts the kind of people that I enjoy working with, both on and off the field," DeCesare continued. "I can't wait to put in the hard work to help the team succeed. My goal and vision for this program is to maximize the individual and team potential on and off the field while attracting quality student-athletes and most importantly young women, who want to succeed in all aspects of their lives."
