Bobby Barnes

Barnes begins his third season as head coach of IU South Bend women's soccer in 2022.

The first head coach in the history of the program, Barnes was named head coach on Oct. 22, 2018.

Barnes holds a record of 1-19 over two seasons at IUSB.

Barnes comes to South Bend after a long and successful career as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Ohio Wesleyan University from 1997-2015.

In his 19 seasons as Ohio Wesleyan's head coach, the Battling Bishops won five North Coast Athletic Conference championships, won the NCAC tournament six times, and made eight NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

Barnes guided the Bishops to back-to-back national championships in 2001 and 2002 with the help of a NCAA Division lll record breaking 60-game winning streak.

Under Barnes, Ohio Wesleyan also advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2000 and to the third round in 2004. Barnes compiled a record of 221-118-30 (.640) during his 19 seasons as head coach at Ohio Wesleyan and was named a two-time recipient of the NCAA Division lll National Coach of the Year.

Barnes began his coaching career as an assistant with the Ohio Wesleyan men's soccer team in 1992, helping guide the Bishops to the NCAA Division III national championship game.

Barnes also served as the Director of Coaching for the Delware (Ohio) Knights, U14 and U12 girls coach, and the head coach of the FC42 U18 team from 2015-19.

A native of Gahanna, Ohio, Barnes is a 1989 Ohio Wesleyan graduate. A 3-year letterman for the Bishop men's soccer team, he was an All-North Coast Athletic Conference pick as a junior after ranking third in the league in scoring with 20 goals, and claimed All-Mideast, All-Ohio and All-NCAC honors as a senior after again ranking third in the league in scoring. He finished his career ranked third on the all-time Bishop list for goals (43) and fourth in total points (97).
