John Markey

John F. Markey was hired as the head coach for Lynn University's women's soccer program on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019.


In his first season with the program, he led the team to a 6-7-1 record. Under his leadership, Anniina Sankoh and Sofia Manner each earned First Team All-SSC honors, with Sankoh going on to earn First Team All-South Region honors as well.


Markey joins the Fighting Knight family after one year as a volunteer assistant in Orlando, Fla. at Division I University of Central Florida. Prior to UCF, Markey spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. In his time with the Tars, the program improved from a 4-9-2 (3-5-2 Sunshine State Conference) record to a 9-4-5 (6-2-2) record in just one season. Under Markey's watch, five Tars were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region as the team advanced to the Sunshine State Conference semifinals and qualified for the NCAA South Region tournament.


Prior to joining the Tars, Markey spent two seasons as head women's soccer coach at Bethany College. During his tenure with the Swedes, Markey led the program to a 20-16-3 record, going 14-7-1 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bethany had 14 players named to KCAC All-Conference teams, with the squad reaching the conference tournament in both seasons under Markey's guidance. Markey also coached the two-time Goalkeeper of the Year. Along with his responsibilities at Bethany, Markey also served as the head coach for FC Wichita of the National Premier Soccer League, leading the team to a 9-2-1 record and a third-place finish in the conference.


Prior to the Swedes, Markey served as an assistant coach at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. for two seasons. His responsibilities included running training sessions, recruiting, game day preparations, developing soccer-specific weight training and summer fitness programs, budgeting, and coordinating a youth camp.


Markey also was head coach for the Kansas Rush U16-U17 girls and U11-U12 boys teams for two years. In addition, he spent two years coaching for the Sporting Blue Valley Soccer Club. Markey's teams included U9-10 boys, U11-12 boys, U14 girls, U15 girls, U17 girls, and U18 girls. His other coaching experiences include time as head coach for Kansas State ODP team, head girls coach for Oak Mountain High School, and head boys and girls coach for Birmingham United Soccer Association.


Markey played collegiately for the University of Montevallo before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his time with the Falcons, Markey was named to the 2005 Gulf South Conference Tournament team and First Team All-Gulf South Conference in 2006. Markey played semi-professionally for the Des Moines Menace in 2006, Baton Rouge Capitals in 2007, Panama City Pirates in 2008, Kansas City Brass in 2009, and after college, played professionally with the Missouri Comets in 2011-2012 and Wichita B-52's from 2014-2015.


Markey holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication Management and a minor in Mass Communication from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Markey also holds an USSF National A license.

Lauren Clem Olshtein

Lauren Clem Olshtein is in her first year as the top assistant with the Lynn University women's soccer team in 2023. Clem Olshtein arrived in Boca Raton following two seasons as a member of the Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer coaching staff.


Clem Olshtein helped PBA to a 10-5 record in 2021, the program's best record since 2012. That season included a six-game winning streak, second-place regular season finish in the SSC and a berth in the league tournament.


Prior to PBA, she spent several years playing at the professional level. Her most recent stint was with AFC Wimbledon while training with Crystal Palace in the United Kingdom where she started at goalkeeper. Clem earned Player of the Match in three out of six games while leading the league in saves per game. Clem started her professional career in Sweden as the starting goalkeeper for IK Uppsala women's fotboll. She helped record six clean sheets for the squad in 14 games along with five Player of the Match awards. Clem also spent time training with the NWSL's Washington Spirit.


Clem also worked as a registered clinical mental health counseling intern at Whole Health Psychological Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. She is working on her doctorate degree in Sport Performance Psychology with a Specialization in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Western States.


The Stevensville, Mich. native graduated from Northwestern with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Pre-Med in 2018. While at Northwestern, she was also a decorated member of the Wildcat women's soccer team which went to the NCAA Tournament in three of her four years and was a co-champion of the Big Ten in 2016.


Clem never missed a game for the Wildcats, setting the school records for 89 games played. Her 49 shutouts rank third in NCAA history and first in Northwestern and Big Ten history. Clem also holds the program records in consecutive starts (89), minutes played (8,493) and goals against average (0.63). The Big Ten named Clem Goalkeeper of the Year in 2016 along with the All-American and All-Region honors she earned from the NSCAA.
