Sherrill Smith

Sherrill Smith is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Midway University women’s soccer program in 2018-19.

Smith has turned around the women’s soccer program after enduring a tough first season back in 2015. He led the Eagles to a 9-4-2 record in 2016, which was the most wins in a season dating back to 2008. Smith followed that up with a 7-7-1 record in 2017.

Thus far in his three seasons, Smith has had a total of five players earn River States Conference All-Conference honors. Two have earned first team honors and three have earned second team honors. He has also had 18 RSC Scholar-Athletes and seven Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Smith came to Midway in April 2015 after spending 30 years of coaching at the high school level in Kentucky. He spent 26 years as the head coach of the boys’ soccer program at Frankfort High School. During his tenure, Smith compiled 264 career victories en route to becoming one of the top-ten winningest coaches in Kentucky.

In 2014, he earned several coaching honors after a successful season. He received the Great Lakes Coach of the Year for small schools by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association (KHSSCA) Coach of the Year and the Central Kentucky Soccer Officials Association (CKSOA) Coach of the Year.

Smith also led Frankfort High School to two district championships, while finishing as district runner-up nine times during his tenure. His teams also advanced to the All “A” State Soccer Cup four times.

Smith has also coached rec and select soccer teams as well as high school boys’ and girls’ tennis, boys’ basketball, and baseball. He has had several players receive statewide awards and several others have gone on to successfully play soccer and tennis at the collegiate level.

In addition to coaching, Smith has experience in athletics administration. He was Commissioner of the Kentucky All “A” State Soccer Cup Tournament from 1999-2012, has served on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Soccer Committee and has worked with the NSCAA.

After a 33-year career in public education, Smith retired as the Assistant Superintendent for Frankfort Independent Schools in March 2015.

Smith and his wife, Ruth, reside in nearby Frankfort, Kentucky. They have four children and three grandchildren.

Didn't have a long-term experience with the site, however I found it more user friendly than CaptainU, which I had used in the past.
