Kevin Johns

Kevin Johns wrapped up his 22nd season as head coach of the Mississippi College men’s soccer program in 2024, continuing one of the most successful runs in program history. Over 22 seasons, Johns has compiled 220 career wins, leading the Choctaws to multiple Gulf South Conference championships and earning multiple GSC Coach of the Year honors.

In 2024, Johns led the Choctaws to an 8-5-3 overall record (.562) and a 6-4-1 mark in conference play (.576), with the team posting a 6-2-1 home record. MC finished the season on a tie streak and remained competitive throughout a challenging schedule that included a 2-0 win over Texas A&M International and a 5-2 win over St. Edward's.

The 2023 season was one of the best in program history, as the Choctaws went 12-2-3 overall (.765) and 8-0-3 in GSC play (.818), winning the GSC regular season championship and finishing undefeated in conference action. Johns was named the GSC Coach of the Year, his second such honor in three seasons. The Choctaws reached the GSC semifinals after a quarterfinal win over Union but narrowly missed an NCAA Tournament berth following an overtime loss to Lee.

In 2022, the Choctaws posted an 11-4-2 overall record (.686) and a 6-3-2 mark in conference play (.606), while in 2021 they finished 10-6-1 overall (.608) and 7-3-1 in the GSC (.667). Each year, MC remained a consistent threat in the conference, showing strong form both at home and on the road.

Johns led the Choctaws to the GSC regular season title in 2016 and again in 2023, both times going undefeated in conference play during the championship seasons. Over the years, he has coached numerous all-conference, all-region, and academic honorees, including standout seasons like goalkeeper Alejandro Chavarria's record-setting 2023 campaign.

Prior to the recent success, Johns also guided MC to strong seasons in 2017 and 2014 and helped the program transition into the Gulf South Conference after its return to NCAA Division II.

Johns’ teams are known for a balanced attack and a disciplined defense, consistently ranking among conference leaders in goals scored and goals against average. His commitment to academic excellence has also been a staple of the program, with dozens of student-athletes earning GSC Academic Honor Roll recognition annually.

Johns currently holds a USSF B license and his National Youth license.

Kevin and his wife Emily have a son, Davis.
