Christopher Lyn

Head Coach Chris Lyn completed his sixth season and seventh year overall as the Mount’s mentor in 2022.


Through his first six seasons leading the Knights, he has led the Mount to a 63-48-10 overall record, six appearances in the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament and four appearances in the Skyline Conference Championship Final. He has mentored 30 All-Conference selections, including the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2019 as well as the Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. Lyn was tabbed the conference’s Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to an unbeaten 9-0 mark in league play in 2017.


After seeing the 2020 season canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Lyn and the Knights returned to the field in 2021 and played to an 11-8-2 overall record and an impressive 8-1-1 mark against Skyline Conference opponents. The Knights made their fourth appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship Final under Lyn’s guidance in 2021 and five Knights were named All-Skyline Conference, including Brittany Bornstad and Chloe Kennedy were named First Team All-League.


Putting together a strong non-conference schedule in 2019, the Mount traveled to Roanoke to take part in the Roanoke Invitational where it took on the host Maroons and preseason nationally ranked Lynchburg. The Knights went on to host Ithaca, Union, Hartwick and National Power William Smith while traveling to Montclair State, Vassar and New York University.


The Knights went on to post their second unbeaten conference schedule under Lyn in 2019, posting a 9-0-1 record and earning the top seed in the Skyline Conference Championship. The Knights featured four more All-Skyline Conference selections highlighted by Brittany Bornstad’s Defensive Player of the Year citation. Bornstad joined Chrissy Cannella and Julia DeSantis as First Team All-League selections with Gina Rivera earning Second Team All-Conference recognition.


Playing a challenging schedule in 2018, the Mount took part in the Mayor’s Cup in Oneonta, N.Y. and also faced-off with non-conference foes Montclair State and NYU at home while making trips to Union and Ithaca. The Knights put together a 13-6-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league play, advancing to the Skyline Conference Championship Final for the ninth straight year. The Knights featured four All-Conference picks in 2018, led by First Team selections Brittany Bornstad and Chrissy Cannella.


During the 2017 campaign, the Knights earned the top seed in the Skyline Conference Championship after going unbeaten in league play for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The Knights posted a 10 game winning streak during the 2017 year and had eight players named All-Skyline Conference. Seniors Bridget McKeever and Destiny Ribadeneyra each collected Skyline Conference major awards with McKeever earning her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award and Ribadeneyra earning Offensive Player of the Year honors.


In his first season at the helm, Lyn guided the Knights to a 9-9 overall mark, playing a challenging non-conference schedule that included RIT, Stevens, Montclair State and local foe Vassar. The Knights were the second seed in the Skyline Conference Championship and saw six players named All-Skyline Conference. Bridget McKeever was tabbed the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.


Lyn brings extensive playing and coaching experience to Newburgh at both the collegiate and club level. Lyn has served as the Director of Operations at Marist since 2011, handling travel itineraries, scheduling, training schedules and equipment management. Lyn also handled fund raising and led the way for the Red Foxes’ community services projects.


Prior to his stint in Poughkeepsie, Lyn served as an assistant with the women’s program at Columbia University from 2007-11 and was the head coach for the women’s program at Division II Molloy College from 2003-07, earning East Coast Conference Coach of the Year accolades in 2006.


Lyn also has experience coaching the men’s game, serving as the head coach at the Culinary Institute of America for two seasons, where he was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2014.


At the club level, Lyn served as Club President and Girl’s U-18 Coach with Middlepath FC in LaGrange, N.Y. from 2011-13 and coached both the Girl’s U-17 and U-18 teams following a club merge with Quickstrike FC in Newburgh, N.Y. from 2013-15. In September 2015, Lyn founded and served as director of NY Xtreme FC.


Lyn served as the Head Coach for the Long Island Women’s Open team in the Empire State games and worked with the Eastchester Patriots Soccer Club and as the Director of Coaching for FC Westchester. Lyn has coaching experience with a Super Y League Girl’s Northeast Region team and served as a National Team scout.


Lyn boasts an impressive playing resume, including serving as a team captain for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Men’s squad. He adds a stint with the Greensboro Dynamo Professional Club in the USISL where the team won a National Championship and earned an MVP honor in the USISL with the Raleigh Flyers. Lyn was tabbed a captain with the Eastern New York State and Region I Olympic Development Program and was a member of the United States Youth National Team.


A holder of several national certifications, Lyn has earned a NSCAA Advanced National Coaching Diploma, a NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma and a USSF ‘National B’ Level Coaching License.


A 1995 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in History, Lyn currently resides in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
