Tyler Channell

Tyler Channell recently concluded his sixth season as an assistant coach for the SVSU Women's Soccer program in the 2021 season. Following the departure of Michael O'Neill in March 2022, Channell was named the Interim Women's Soccer Head Coach. He was promoted to full-time head coach in May 2022.

Channell was a part of the Cardinals during their historic Fall 2021 season, helping an SVSU team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in history and set a new program record 14 wins in a single season. Six Cardinals earned All-GLIAC honors, while four others earned All-Midwest Region honors. Stephanie Strong earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors and was named First Team All-GLIAC. She set a single-season program record with 14 goals scored. Olivia Argeros was named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC after setting a program single-season record with 13 shutouts. Amy Babon, Casey Rice, and Reegan Kingpavong earned Second Team All-GLIAC, while Zo Schultz was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

Additionally the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association named Argeros, Strong, and Babon Second Team All-Midwest Region after their stellar season, while the United Soccer Coaches named Strong All-Region First Team and Kingpavong to the Second Team.

During the 2020-21 spring season, Channell helped coach Alyssa Watts to Honorable Mention All-GLIAC and helped lead SVSU to the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals.

In 2019, Saginaw Valley posted a 12-7 overall record, sealing a trip to the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Cardinals advanced to the title match of the tournament. Molly Vanderhoff and Sakura Bals each earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors while Autumn Kloha was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad.

Channell helped coach the Cardinals to an overall record of 12-4-4 and 5-2-2 in the GLIAC in the 2018 season. He worked with Molly Vanderhoff who was named to United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region Team, garnered United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors, and was selected as All-GLIAC First Team for the second year in a row. Vanderhoff also earned D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team honors and finished the 2018 season with 65 shots and 26 points good for fifth in the GLIAC.

During the 2018 season, Channell also coached Valentina Giambanco who received D2CCA All-Midwest Regional Second Team and All-GLIAC First Team honors. He also worked with Jennifer Muana and Lindsay Stroebel who earned All-GLIAC Second Team and honorable mentions, respectively.

He transitions over to the coaching side after a great career for the SVSU men's team, ranging from 2011-2015.

Channell earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year honors twice during his career, being honored as a sophomore in 2013 and again as a senior in the 2015 campaign.
