Farkhod Kurbonov

The Saint Mary's College Department of Athletics has named Farkhod Kurbonov (far-HAHD kur-BAHN-ahv) as the head soccer coach effective Monday, March 14, 2022.

Kurbonov comes to Saint Mary's with coaching experience at the club, junior college, NAIA, and NCAA Division II levels. Most recently, he has served as the head men's soccer coach at Marian University's Ancilla College. He was responsible for all facets of the Chargers program, including the day-to-day operations of the team, fundraising, summer camps, and academic monitoring and progress of student-athletes. Kurbonov's 2021 squad was ranked among the top 10 Division II junior colleges nationally for four weeks and was in the United Soccer Coaches Top 20 NJCAA Division II poll throughout the month of September. In addition to his responsibilities as the head coach, Kurbonov also served as the sports information director.

Prior to his arrival at Marian University's Ancilla College, he was the associate head coach for the men's soccer program at Holy Cross College from 2018 to 2019. His primary responsibilities with the Saints included recruiting, strength and conditioning, game film and scouting, and assisting the head coach with the team's day-to-day activities.

Kurbonov started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Pasadena City College, a National Junior College Athletic Association member in Pasadena, California, before serving as an assistant coach while earning a master's degree at Delta State University, an NCAA Division II program in Cleveland, Mississippi. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, he has coached with both the girls and boys youth programs with the Michiana Echo club system.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Kurbonov was a four-year member of the Holy Cross College men's soccer team. He registered the game-winning goal in a 2-0 road victory at Trinity Christian in his sophomore season. As a junior, he posted a hat trick along with the game-winning goal in a home contest against Purdue Calumet.

Kurbonov holds bachelor of arts degrees in both communications and business with a marketing minor from Holy Cross College. He went on to earn a master of science degree in sports and human performance from Delta State University in which he earned honors. Additionally, Kurbonov holds a United States Soccer Federation B license and NSCAA goalkeeper level 1 and 2 diplomas.

"I am thrilled to be the next head soccer coach at Saint Mary's College," said Kurbonov. "This place is special to me after playing at one of the tri-campus schools myself. I would like to thank Julie Schroeder-Biek and the entire search committee for this opportunity. I can't wait to start building a positive culture in the program, and I will work to make sure that all of our student-athletes have a great experience playing for the great institution that Saint Mary's truly is. Go Belles!"

The site worked great for the tournaments I used it for. I had many coaches respond to my contacting them. The site helped me develop confidence in getting through the recruiting process.
