Kristin Cannon

Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Dr. Kristin Cannon G'12 has been named the head women's soccer coach and assistant professor of physical education at Springfield College.

A graduate of Assumption College, Cannon is no stranger to Alden Street as she earned a Masters degree from Springfield College and spent time as graduate assistant with the women's soccer program from 2010-12.

"Dr. Cannon possesses an impressive and extensive soccer background having served in numerous capacities at a variety of levels, ranging from prep school to NCAA Division III and Division I institutions," said Poisson. "Kristin's soccer experiences, coupled with her teaching and administrative skill sets, fit our teacher-coach model hand in glove. I look forward to having Coach Cannon on the sidelines guiding the growth and development of our young women on the pitch."

Cannon returns to Springfield with a wealth of coaching and administrative experience as she has held positions at the Division I, II, and III levels, including stops at Johnson State, LIU-Brooklyn, Xavier, and Cincinnati. Most recently, Cannon has served as the Director of Athletics and Head Girls' Soccer Coach at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

"I am beyond thrilled to be back on Alden Street. As a proud graduate school alumnae, having this opportunity to teach and coach at Springfield College is a privilege. I am eager to begin working with our student-athletes and build on the tradition of the women's soccer program and live the Humanics philosophy every day." said Cannon. " I would like to thank President Mary-Beth Cooper, Craig Poisson, Sue Guyer, Steven Groccia, and the entire search committee, as well as every coach and player I have learned with and from during my career. There are too many to list but you are all on this journey with me," said Cannon. "Springfield College is a special place because of its people and mission, and I look forward to being an active member of the community every day."

Cannon will take over a Springfield College women's soccer program that has a storied history of success and will become just the sixth head coach in the program's history.

Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Brendon Boates '01 has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Springfield College women's soccer program.

"I am looking forward to the addition of Brendon and his vast soccer background to our women's soccer coaching staff," said Poisson. "His enthusiasm and passion for the sport will undoubtedly positively impact all involved in the program."

Boates brings 21 years of professional coaching experience to the Pride, including his most recent stint as an assistant coach with Division I Northeastern University. While at Northeastern, he helped the Huskies to back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. Boates, who is nationally certified by the United Soccer Coaches organization, is also the owner and operator of a private soccer training company which services clients from all over New England. The program has produced six high school All-Americans, 60+ collegiate players, 40+ athletic scholarship recipients, and the #6 overall pick in last year's NWSL draft. In his time on the sidelines, Boates' teams have claimed six Massachusetts State Cup Championships, five National Premier League Championships, have appeared in the US Club Soccer National Semifinals three times and in 2017 his squad reached the US Club Soccer NPL National Championship match.

"I am incredibly excited to be back on Alden Street, and I'm honored to be joining the staff of such a highly respected athletic program. As a Springfield alumnus, I am acutely aware of how incredibly special the college truly is," said Boates. I am looking forward to getting out on the pitch with our talented group of student-athletes and continuing to build on the foundation of success which has been laid by past Springfield College teams. Many of my fondest life memories were made during my undergraduate years at Springfield College, and I'm looking forward to even more special moments in the years to come."

Boates is a former member of the Pride men's soccer team and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Springfield College in 2001.
