Matthew Risher

Coach Risher is the director of athletics and head men’s soccer coach at Spurgeon College. He played Division I soccer at Marshall University and then transferred to Coastal Carolina University, where he graduated. Risher helped Coastal Carolina win two conference championships and two NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances. Coastal Carolina led the nation in scoring in both years that he played, and Coach Risher contributed five goals in his two years there. In 2019, he graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with his Master of Divinity and is currently in the doctoral program. Coach Risher is passionate about discipleship and looks forward to the opportunity to impact the Kingdom through soccer.

Coach Risher is married to Bethany, and they have one daughter, Noelle.

Jared Dean

Coach Dean is the sports information director and the assistant men’s soccer coach at Spurgeon College. He played NCAA Division II soccer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. After significant injuries he decided to take some time off from soccer and transferred to Spurgeon College to participate in the Fusion program in 2019/20. Later Dean would come out of retirement and play for Spurgeon College during the inaugural year of the program in the 2021 season scoring 3 goals and assisting 4 times in 5 games.

Coach Dean has a bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Studies and Business from Spurgeon College as well as his USSF D Coaching License and USC Level 1 Goalkeeping Diploma. Dean also coaches at Alliance Futbol Club in Independence, MO.

Coach Dean is married to Lauren, and they have one daughter, Addalyn.
