Katie Ritchie

Katie Ritchie was named the University of Saint Katherine women’s soccer head coach by Director of Athletics Daniel Stange on Dec. 6, 2018.

Ritchie brings a vast wealth of experience to the Firebirds as a coach and player at both the professional and club levels.

Originally from Canada, Ritchie has played at the highest level of professional soccer, competing in England with Chelsea Ladies FC and winning the FA Women’s Premier League championship with the Surrey County reserves.

Ritchie was also captain of LA Strikers FC, playing every match of the season, and finished her playing career in the Norwegian Toppserien with Amazon Grimstad.

Ritchie has also coached at the highest levels of soccer, returning to her former clubs LA Strikers and Amazon Grimstad to coordinate summer camps and coach the U-16 team, respectively.

In 2016 at Carlsbad High School, she led the freshman team to an undefeated season and the best record in the history of the program.

She also spent eight years with Vancouver Whitecaps FC as an academy and prospects coach, a regional development coach, and the lead coach of summer camps. Most recently, she was involved at the club level with LA Galaxy San Diego in the DA and DPL programs, as well as assisting their semi-pro Women’s Premier Soccer League team.

Pauly Ulrich

Paul Ulrich joined the University of Saint Katherine staff in August of 2016 as a men’s and women’s soccer assistant coach, and months later also assumed the role of Sports Information Director in February of 2017.

Ulrich serves as the goalkeeper coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs and assists with the day-to-day operation of the program.

As Sports Information Director, Ulrich generates media publicity for all of St. Katherine’s athletic programs while also organizing and maintaining websites and social media accounts.

Ulrich facilitates the compilation and accuracy of key data and statistics for all of the University’s athletic teams, and corresponds with athletic administration from opposing schools to coordinate events and ensure smooth transfer of pertinent data.

In addition, Ulrich has worked as a tutor for the last two years offering group and individual help in general chemistry and college algebra.

Ulrich worked as a teacher’s assistant in the physics and chemistry department at St. Katherine for the 2016-17 academic year designing and constructing laboratory experiments, administering grade examinations and assignments, and creating spreadsheets necessary for bookkeeping .

Following his 2011 high school graduation, Ulrich returned to Horizon Christian Academy as an assistant coach for the boys’ varsity team, working with the goalkeepers, assisting with practices and matches, and also coaching the goalkeepers with the girls’ varsity program from 2011-17.

Ulrich was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll in 2010 and 2011, and was also a member of The National Society of High School Scholars. He was also named to the San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Teams for both baseball and soccer in 2011.
