Adam Hall is in his eighth season as the head coach of the University of Illinois Springfield men’s soccer team in 2023.
In his first six seasons, Hall has rebuilt the men’s soccer program to its highest level since moving to the NCAA. He has a 50-41-13 record at UIS, and a 59-48-15 career coaching mark including his one season at St. Joseph’s.
Under Hall, the Prairie Stars have been mark by a strong defense, including a GAA mark under 1.25 in each of the last five seasons. Offensively, UIS has four of its top five scoring seasons at the NCAA level since Hall has taken over the program.
The 2021 season was the best year in the program’s NCAA era. UIS went 13-6-2 overall, including a 10-2-1 overall record. The Prairie Stars reached the GLVC Tournament finals for the first time, and also earned its first NCAA Tournament bid. After a first-round bye, UIS defeated Maryville by a 2-1 score for its first national postseason win and a trip to the third round.
Hall directed UIS to new heights with just three players earning all-GLVC or all-regions honors, and managed a balanced team to a 10-3-2 record in games decided by one goal or less. UIS finished the year ranked 16th in NCAA Division II, and Marvin Zott became the first NCAA All-American in program history.
In the shortened spring 2021 campaign, UIS had one of the top defenses in NCAA Division II, ranking tenth nationally with a 0.59 GAA. The Prairie Stars had five shutouts, and only allowed more than one goal in one contest. UIS went 4-3-3 in the GLVC, and kept its streak of GLVC Tournament appearances alive.
Goalie Pijus Petkevicius earned all-conference honors for the second of three times in his career.
During the 2019 season, UIS won nine matches for the second straight year, and advanced to its third straight GLVC Tournament. The Prairie Stars finished the year with a 9-8-2 record, and finished sixth in the GLVC with a 7-6-2 conference mark.
Hall helped Mario Falsone earn all-conference honors, as well as a third-team all-region award.
In 2018, UIS finished above .500 for the first time as a NCAA program. The Prairie Stars went 9-6-3 overall and finished third in the GLVC with an 8-3-2 mark. UIS earned the right to host a first-round GLVC Tournament game for the first time in program history.
Hall helped in the development of three all-conference players, including Rhys Wallace becoming the first UIS player to earn first-team honors. Wallace also made program history by being the first first-team all-region performer, and he was one of two players named to an all-region team.
In 2017, Hall and UIS made school history by advancing to the GLVC Tournament for the first time. The Prairie Stars went 8-5-1 in conference play and placed sixth in the final standings. UIS had an overall record of 8-8-1, its highest winning percentage since moving to the NCAA.
Hall helped two players earn all-GLVC honors with Rhys Wallace earning second-team honors, and Jack Coombes being a third-team award winner.
In his first year at UIS in 2016, Hall led his team to seven overall victories, three more than the previous season, and six GLVC wins, four more than 2015. The Prairie Stars offense improved by 114 percent that season, and they set the program’s NCAA scoring record with 32 goals.
The Prairie Stars had their first all-GLVC selection in 2016, as Hall helped Zachary Allevi earn third-team honors.
Off the pitch, the men’s soccer team has earned 93 GLVC academic all-conference awards over the last six years, including setting a program record with 22 during the 2021-22 school year. In 2019, Dan Mahony became the first UIS player to earn Academic All-American honors when he was selected to the third-team.
Prior to coming to UIS, Hall was the head coach at former GLVC member Saint Joseph’s College for the 2015 season. He led Saint Joseph’s to a 9-7-2 record, the first winning season for that program since 2009. Saint Joseph’s made the conference tournament for the first time in 20 years, and was the fifth-seed. He also helped the team be ranked as high as No. 7 in the NCAA regional rankings.
Hall was the head coach at Ancilla College from 2013-14. He helped the junior college program win 26 games in those two years, including a school-record 16-4-1 mark in his second year. He helped that squad win the conference championship in 2013, and it was the Region XII runner-up in 2014. He earned MCCAA Coach of the Year honors in 2013.
Hall coached several players that earned national and regional honors at Ancilla, including Dayle Robertson who earned first-team All-American honors after he led the nation in scoring with 30 goals in 2014.
Hall also has collegiate coaching experience as an assistant at Martin Methodist College and Wesley College. Other experience includes leading the U16 team in the Central Delaware Soccer Association, and coaching the Mishawaka High School, and the Junior Irish Soccer Club.
Hall graduated from Martin Methodist with a degree in sports management in 2007, and later received his master's degree in physical education with an NCATE Accreditation in 2010 from Wesley.
