Jake Beverlin

The 2022 campaign will mark the 10th season for head coach Jake Beverlin.


Beverlin has guided the men’s soccer program to their most successful seven-year run in program history and one of the most successful runs in the history of the athletics department. Over the past six seasons, Beverlin has led the Beacons to seven-straight LEC Tournaments, three Little East Conference Tournament Titles and two LEC Regular Season titles. The Beacons won back-to-back-to-back LEC Tournament Titles from 2014-2016 and took home the LEC Regular Season Championship in 2014 and 2016.


In 2021, Beverlin's squad produced a 13-4-1 record, 6-1-1 in the conference, and a 10-game unbeaten streak in the middle of the season. Nilton de Andrade and Emelson Barbosa were both named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans, while Barbosa also becoming the first USC Scholar All-American. Andrade was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Year, while Barbosa picked-up LEC Defensive Player of the Year accolades. In total three Beacons earned All-Region honors, while five grabbed LEC postseason accolades.


In 2019, the Beacons put together one of their strongest seasons in program history with a 12-3-4 record. The Beacons defense set several program records including fewest goals allowed (12), lowest goals against average (0.60) and tied the record for most shutouts in a season (11). They proved to be incredibly competitive all season long, as all three of the team's losses came by just a single goal. Junior midfielder Nilton de Andrade became just the fourth player in program history to earn All-American honors and the Beacons tied a program record with five players on the LEC All-Conference First Team.


Despite a slew of injuries during the course of the 2018 season, Beverlin guided the Beacons to their fifth-consecutive top-four finish in the Little East Conference. The Beacons posted their third conference season with one loss or fewer in five years (5-1-2), including posting a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Keene State College to deny the Owls the LEC Regular Season Title. At the end of the season, five players earned LEC All-Conference honors for the first time in their careers.


UMass Boston finished the 2017 campaign with a 9-6-3 record and a third-place finish in the LEC. The Beacons raced out to a 7-2-2 record but couldn't overcome a lack of offensive output, as Beverlin suffered his first career LEC Tournament loss-a 2-0 defeat in the LEC Semifinal Round.


In 2016, Beverlin led UMass Boston to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. The Beacons earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win (3-0 over Kean University) and then advanced past Haverford College in penalty kicks, before eventually falling 1-0 to NCAA Division III Champion Tufts University.


The 2016 season marked the best year in program history. UMass Boston opened the season riding a program-record 13-game unbeaten streak (12-0-1) and the Beacons finished with their most-ever wins (18-2-3). UMass Boston earned a spot in the top-25 of both national polls for nearly the entire season and were ranked as high as #4 (National Soccer Coaches of America Association) and #8 (D3Soccer.com) nationally on October 11. Overall, UMass Boston set 13 team program records and the Beacons ended the season in the top-20 in Division III in 10 different categories. The Beacons also had two players earn All-American status, the second and third players to earn national honors.


In 2015, Beverlin's squad repeated as Little East Conference Tournament champions. The Beacons knocked-off Plymouth State University in the semi-final round before dropping Rhode Island College in overtime on their home field. Beverlin led his team to a then program-record 16 wins and a 10-game win-streak to start the 2015 season. In total six players earned All-Conference accolades, including the program's second Rookie of the Year selection in the last three seasons in Mohamed Kenawy. Kenawy along with senior Pedro Dasilva would earn All-Region honors, after lead the Beacons back to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. Amongst their many victories in the fall, the Beacons completely dismantled Keene State College in the most one-sided victory for the Beacons over the Owls in program history. They also became the first team in the program's history to travel to West Coast where they played two matches, both of which they won, in Washington state.


The 2014 season saw the Beacons complete one of the biggest turnarounds in UMass Boston history. The Beacons won both the Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament championships, and earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. He also compiled a program best 14 wins, and coached a program record nine all-conference selections, and four All-Region honorees. Suffering just one conference loss during the regular season, Beverlin's squad earned their first conference tournament win in UMass Boston history by defeating Rhode Island College, 1-0 on the Beacons home field. They then pulled off the biggest win of the postseason, by defeating longtime rival Keene State College by the final of 2-1 in double overtime, in front of a sellout crowd in Boston.


Beverlin coached the program's first Tournament MVP in Douglas Silveira '15, who also earned the conference's Offensive Player of the Honor honors. Sophomore back Pedro De Carvalho earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, after helping the Beacons set a new mark for shutouts in a season with nine.


In his first year, Beverlin completely changed the look of the men’s soccer program. With a combined 11 wins, his 2013 Beacons became just the seventh team in program history to record 10 or more wins in a season. Beverlin also wasted no time in completely overhauling his roster, bringing in players from the junior college level, as well as from across the country. He coached his first Little East Conference Rookie of the Year in Edmilson Barros and had two other players earn All-Conference accolades.


Beverlin came to UMass Boston after serving as the head assistant men’s soccer coach at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown since 2009. Having coached and competed at all levels both in the United States and in Europe, Beverlin will continue to make the men’s soccer program one of the top teams both in the Little East Conference and in Division III.


While at Bunker Hill, he played a major part in helping the men’s team to a combined record of 36-4-3 over the last two seasons, and the program’s highest NJCAA national ranking in 2012 (2nd).


It was also in 2012 that Beverlin played a major part in leading the Bulldogs to the program’s first-ever appearance in the final-four of the NJCAA National Tournament, as well as leading them to a new program best for wins in a season with a 19-3-1 record.


In 2011, the Bulldogs set a new mark for fewest losses in a single season under Beverlin as they produced a 17-1-2 campaign, which earned them an undefeated conference and regional record.


As a member of the coaching staff at Bunker Hill, Beverlin saw a total of 24 players earn NJCAA All-Region XXI honors. He also coached two NSCAA and three NJCAA All-Americans.


No stranger to studying and working with coaches at the International level, Beverlin studied at Newcastle United of the BPL.


Beverlin also serves as the assistant coach with the professional team Boston Breakers and helped the squad to a WPSL regular season championship in 2012. Prior to that served as the Director of Soccer Operations at Division I Boston University. During his time with the Terriers, the program won two America East Conference titles.


As a player, Beverlin played two seasons at Cosumnes River Junior College, where he led the team to back-to-back conference titles, as well as earning the team a spot in the National Top-10 rankings. After arriving on the San Francisco State University campus, Beverlin started in 35 of the 40 games during those two seasons. He would later elevate his game to the next level and play for a variety of semi-professional and professional teams.


A 2009 graduate of San Francisco State University, where he earned his bachelor’s in Political Science, Beverlin received his master’s degree in Sports Management at Southern New Hampshire University, and maintained a 3.54 grade point average.


He also currently holds an NSCAA Advanced, Advanced National, and Premier Diploma as well as a USSF "A" license.
