Chris Logan

Chris Logan was named head coach of the North Dakota soccer program in December 2016 and enters his sixth season at the program's helm in 2022-23.

Former Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year Head Coach Chris Logan has left an indelible mark on the program, leading North Dakota to its first-ever Summit League Tournament appearance, its first 10-win season since 2006, and building one of The Summit League's top-offenses all in 2019.

During the modified 2020-21 schedule, Logan coached senior Megan Wright to earning Summit League Offensive Player of the Week once. He led the Fighting Hawks to a series sweep of Kansas City with both games being won in overtime. Along with the sweep of Kansas City, he led the team to sweep Western Illinois earlier in the season. These were the first series sweeps since joining the Summit League due to the modified game schedule.

With an aggressive, attack-minded playing style and mentality, the University of North Dakota finished its second season in 2019 in The Summit League with a 10-8-1 record, including an even League record of 4-4 to qualify for The Summit League Tournament. The Fighting Hawks postseason appearance was the program's first as an NCAA Tournament eligible program.

After leading The League in scoring in 2018, UND once again showcased its volatile offense as it posted the second-most goals in 2019 as it scored 33 goals alongside NCAA Tournament participant Denver. The program had not scored 30-or-more goals in consecutive seasons since 2004and 2005. Earning six shutouts on the season as well, goalkeeper Catherine Klein broke North Dakota's career shutout record posting her 14th at Western Illinois on Oct. 13 to earn her second Summit League Defensive Player of the Week award. Bailey McNitt also earned accolades in 2019 being named to The Summit League's All-Freshmen Team, marking the second straight year a Fighting Hawk earned the accolade (Olivia Knox).

The University of North Dakota finished the 2018 season 9-6-2, it's best record to date in the program’s Division I history. Led by Summit League Player of the Year Katie Moller, UND amassed 41 goals while only allowing 10 to lead The Summit League in both categories.

The Hawks were amongst the top-40 teams in the country in scoring while ranking among the nation’s top teams in goals-against average (15th) at 0.58 and save percentage (3rd) at 0.89.

The 2018 group set single-game records for goals and assists at Alcorn State on Sept. 16 as it defeated the Lady Braves, 12-0, dishing 10 assists. In a 7-1 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 21, the Fightings accounted for the most goals in a conference match in program history. Individually, Moller tied the program’s single-game mark for goals (4) and points (8) against the Mastodons as well.

While Moller made headlines for her scoring and numerous awards - earning Senior CLASS Award Finalist and Second Team All-America honors - First Team All-Summit League selection Olivia Swenson was the glue that held the defense together as she posted seven shutouts between the sticks. Swenson was also recognized for achievements in the classroom and on the pitch as she earned Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors at season’s end.

In Logan’s second season, UND went 6-8-4, and its 4-5-1 conference mark was the best of its six-year Big Sky era, leaving the Hawks one win shy of a conference tournament berth. UND enjoyed its biggest haul of conference hardware as a Division I program, including Big Sky Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Catherine Klein.

Klein was joined on the All-Big Sky First Team by junior forward Katie Moller, giving UND a pair of all-conference first-team performers at any level for the first time in program history. Additionally, defender Emma Contino was named an All-Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention.

Logan came to UND after one year as the head coach at the University of Northern Iowa, where he helped guide the Panthers to their best season since 2003. Under his guidance in 2016, the Panthers set numerous program records, including best conference regular-season finish, most conference points, most all-conference player awards, the most home wins, and most goals scored.

Prior to taking the helm at UNI, he spent four seasons at North Dakota State, including the final three as associate head coach, where he helped the Bison to a Summit League regular-season title in 2015, and four consecutive Summit League tournament appearances.

Logan came to NDSU after spending a season as the top assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Before Pittsburgh, Logan began his collegiate coaching career at Slippery Rock (Pa.) University, where he served four seasons as the goalkeeper coach for both the men’s and women’s programs. He helped Slippery Rock goalkeeper Greg Blum earn All-America honors in 2009.

A native of Stoke-on-Trent, England, Logan was an NAIA All-American goalkeeper at Notre Dame College (Ohio) from 2002-06, helping the Falcons win three conference titles. He also spent time playing semi-professional soccer in the Premier Development League for the West Palm Beach Pumas and the West Virginia Chaos.

Logan graduated from Notre Dame College in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in English and literature. He earned his master’s in English and literature from Slippery Rock in 2009.
