Mallory Sayre

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Department of Athletics has named Georgia Southern assistant coach Mallory Sayre as the next head coach of the UWG women's soccer program.


Sayre, who has been at Georgia Southern for the past two seasons, becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the UWG soccer program.


"We are pleased to welcome Coach Sayre to the University of West Georgia," said Deputy Athletics Director Karen Allen, who led UWG's efforts on this search. "She's energetic and engaging, and her experience as a player and a coach speaks for itself. She is the perfect person to lead West Georgia soccer into Division I competition."


A former goalkeeper, Sayre has been an assistant coach for nine seasons, including experience in all three levels of NCAA soccer.


"I would like to thank UWG President Dr. Brendan Kelly, Director of Athletics Jason Carmichael, and the entire search committee for the opportunity to lead this program. I am so excited to start this journey here at West Georgia," Sayre said. "I've enjoyed my time at Georgia Southern and want to thank Chris Adams and Jared Benko, the athletic administration, and the student-athletes for their support in my development. I can't wait to get started."


Sayre has been instrumental in Georgia Southern's defensive unit, as the Eagles gave up just 12 goals in 2022 and only two in Sun Belt Conference play as they went 8-4-5. The Eagles' 0.71 goals against average was a new school record, and the team notched eight shutouts. In 2023, the Eagles improved to a 12-win season.


Before her successful two-year stint at Georgia Southern, Sayre was an assistant coach at Gulf South Conference rival Alabama Huntsville for two seasons. In 2021, the Chargers' goalkeepers allowed just one goal per game under Sayre's tutelage.


Prior to her time at UAH, Sayre spent five seasons at Division III Oglethorpe, where she was responsible for the team's goalkeepers and defenders while also handling administrative duties with recruiting and travel.


As a player, Sayre put together a legendary career at North Georgia, amassing a 56-17-4 career record in goal and notching a Peach Belt Conference-best 27 career shutouts and a 0.97 goals against average.


Sayre graduated from UNG with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2016 and completed a master's degree in physical education at UNG in 2018.
