Jesse Tinney

Jesse Tinney is entering his third year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Tinney joined the Pioneer staff as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams in the summer of 2021 and was promoted to the Head Men’s Coach in March of 2023.


During Tinney’s first season as an assistant coach, the men’s team finished with an impressive 13-5-2 record. During the season, the team had its longest unbeaten streak in program history at 14 games. Other team accomplishments included Jack Gentilli earning Third Team All-Region honors and being named Co-Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Chase Werner earned All-Wisconsin 2nd Team, Konrad Ziaja earned All-Wisconsin Honorable Mention and Lucas Schoeneberg also earned All-Wisconsin Honorable Mention.


Tinney helped the women’s team in 2021 finish with an overall record of 9-6-3. During the season, the team had the best start in program history and went undefeated for the entire month of September. Other team accomplishments included Amber Lueder earning First Team All-WIAC honors and Annalise Spindle being named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.


During the 2022 men’s season, Tinney helped lead the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance with a 12-5-3 record. Tinney and the staff were also awarded the Coast-to-Coast Coaching Staff of the Year award. Team accomplishments included Jack Gentilli earning his second All-Region and All-Wisconsin honors while also being All-Conference. Additionally, Danny Gutzwiller was named the Conference Rookie of the Year, while Konrad Ziaja, Clayton Lautenschlaeger, and Alester Dawson received All-Conference honors. Danny Gutzwiller, Konrad Ziaja, and Clayton Lautenschlaeger were also named to the All-Wisconsin team.


During the 2022 women’s season, Tinney helped lead the team to its best season in program history with a 12-6-2 record. The team also made it to the quarterfinals of the WIAC Tournament. Team accomplishments included Lydia Smith earning All-WIAC honors and Annalise Spindle being named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.


A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, Tinney graduated from Chartiers Valley High School where he was an All-Conference player and League All-Star. He served as a team captain and was a three-year letter- winner. He went on to a standout collegiate career playing as a midfielder for the University of Mount Union and played in a total of 70 games making 63 starts. During his 2018 season at Mount Union, the team reached its first-ever national rank (#13); highest ever regional rank (#2), and a team record of completing nine consecutive shutouts. He was voted Rookie of the Year by his teammates after the 2014 campaign. Tinney was also voted the team’s Offensive MVP in two consecutive seasons, and the Overall MVP in 2016. He graduated from Mount Union in 2018 with undergraduate degrees in Marketing and Business Management.


Following his collegiate career, Tinney coached for Beadling Soccer club in Pittsburgh. He coached the club’s youth academy teams and the 2008 boys age group. Under Tinney, the ‘08 team won the 2021 PA West State Cup and earned a spot in the USYS Eastern 2021 Regional Championships where they were finalists. Tinney’s ‘08 team was selected to play in the MLS Next Developmental League in the 2021 Fall season. It was the club’s first-ever team to participate in the league.


Tinney currently holds a United States Soccer Federation C License and received his Master’s in Education during May of 2023 from the University of Mount Union.

Tom Corcoran

Corcoran was formerly the University of Dubuque Men's Soccer Assistant Coach, before taking over Head Coaching duties between March 2022 and August 2022. A Warrington, England native, Tom prior to UD spent two years at Clarke University (NAIA), where he served as men's assistant coach and also the head girls coach at Dubuque Senior High School (2017-19), winning MVC Coach of the year during the 2017-18 school year.


As the Spartans assistant coach, he was part of back-to-back American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championships. UD would go 6-1-1 in the abbreviated spring 2021 season to claim the American Rivers Conference Championship. The UD coaching staff would earn American Rivers Conference Staff of the Year, United Soccer Coaches DIII North Region Staff of the Year, and United Soccer Coaches DIII Men's National Staff of the Year. In the fall of 2021, he helped guide a team which finished the conference season undefeated, a perfect 8-0 in league play and once again earning staff of the year for the Spartans.


Tom also serves in the role of Director of Senior Academy for the Dubuque Soccer Club, where he oversees the U13 to U18 Boys and Girls teams.


He also spent the 2016-17 season as the Men's and Women's Soccer assistant at the UW-Superior. While there, he helped guide the UW-Superior men's team to an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament finals appearance.


Corcoran was a four-year starter at The College of St Scholastica. Earning All-Conference and All-Region honors three out of his four years, helping the team to four conference titles and four NCAA Tournament appearances. He received his bachelor's degree in management and marketing from The College of St Scholastica. Corcoran also spent those years coaching boys and girls at Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club in Duluth, Minnesota as head coach.


He was also a regular starter for Duluth FC in the NPSL North Conference, claiming a North Conference Championship in 2017, Midwest Championship in 2018, along with a National Semifinal appearance in the same season.


He earned his Master of Organizational Leadership from Clarke University in May 2019 and Master in Management - Sport Management in 2022 from the University of Dubuque. Corcoran currently holds an USSF 'C' License.


He and his wife Gretchen reside in Dubuque.

Christian Alvarado

Christian Alvarado is entering his fourth year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Alvarado joined the Pioneer staff as a Graduate assistant coach in the summer of 2020. He is involved in all aspects of the men’s and women’s soccer programs.

He went on to a standout collegiate career playing as a midfielder for the Heidelberg University. Alvarado was a 4-year standout, as a sophomore, he earned second team all-conference for the 2016 season, and earned ALL-OAC in 2017 as a junior. Alvarado appeared in 60 games while starting 50 before ending his career early due to injury. He captained the program in 2016, 2017, and 2018. During his 2017 season at Heidelberg, the team reached its highest national ranking (#9). Alvarado was voted Overall MVP in 2017.


He graduated from Heidelberg College in 2019 with undergraduate degrees in Communication and Integrated Media. He also received a Master’s degree for Sports Administration from UW-Platteville in May of 2023.

Christian Alvarado

Christian Alvarado Burgos is in his second year as the assistant coach.


Alvarado graduated from Heidelberg University (Tiffin, OH) in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Integrated Media.


Alvarado was a 4-year standout at Heidelberg. As a sophomore, he earned second team all-conference for the 2016 season, and earned ALL-OAC in 2017 as a junior. Alvarado appeared in 60 games while starting 50 before ending his career early due to injury. He captained the program in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Over his career, Alvarado tallied 1 goal and 10 assists while playing in the midfield.


After Heidelberg, Alvarado was the varsity assistant soccer coach for both boys and girls at his alma mater, Hoover High School, in San Diego, CA.
