Thomas Goodman

Goodman joined Finlandia University as its first Director of Esports in 2020 creating the program and finding success in FIFA and Valorant. In 2021 Goodman took the role as Head women’s soccer coach. 2022 was Goodman’s second season as head coach of women’s soccer at Finlandia, and his first as head coach for the men’s soccer team.


During his first two seasons, Goodman led the Women Lions to qualify for the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championships and leads the school in women's soccer coaching wins. In 2022 he led the men’s team to its second-best season in school history.


Before coming to Finlandia University Thomas was the interim men’s soccer head coach and Director of Esports for Siena Heights University (NAIA) where he took the soccer team to a 6-11-0 season, and in Esports his Rocket League Team was 7th in the nation. While in Adrian Goodman was the Assistant Director of Coaching at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the girls’ varsity soccer coach at Tecumseh High School where in 2017 and 2019, he was awarded the Lenawee County Coach of the Year award.


Before moving to Michigan Goodman was in Eugene, Oregon, in Eugene he was a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Oregon (NCAA D1) while working as the web master for the University of Oregon school of law from 2006-2009 helping the team to a 45-43-12 record. Also, in Eugene he coached boys’ soccer at Willamette High School (WHS) for five years, winning the league the first time in the school's 63-year history. During his time at WHS, he was awarded 2011 and 2012 MWL Coach of the Year and 2011 Oregon State Coach of the Year. While serving as a high school coach he was also the Director of Coaching for Eugene Soccer Club and the head coach for the 2008 and 2009 u15/u16 girls State Cup Champions – Futbol Unidos ESC, he won the NSCAA Club coach of the year in 2003,2004,2006, 2010 and 2011. In Oregon, Goodman was also a Region IV ODP girls coach, and worked with the U.S. Women’s National Team on several occasions while earning his coaching licenses in Portland Oregon.


Goodman has extensive playing experience in soccer, he was a two-time All-State selection at Orting High School (Wash.), he moved to England as a fifteen-year-old and played soccer at Arsenal’s Academy team and was later traded to play soccer with Torquay United for two seasons. Goodman was also on the Canadian Olympic Mountain bike team.


Goodman received his BA in Education Foundations from the University of Oregon and master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Pedagogy with a focus in soccer coaching from Ohio University and his Doctorate in Higher Education and Leadership at Concordia University.


Goodman has his Level 4 Certificate in Coaching (UEFA A Coaching License), USSF National A Coaching License, FA level 2 Certificate of Coaching, NSCAA Mental/Physical Player Development Special Topic Diploma, Goalkeeping Level 2 Diploma and Professional Development Certificate for High School Coaches.


Goodman and his wife Amber have two children Lenicka and Amsel, 3 pugs and a cat.

Spencer Durfee

Spencer Durfee joined the Waldorf men’s soccer staff in 2022. He helped the Warriors to an 8-6-2 record with an 8-game unbeaten streak. Durfee helped coach two all-conference selections including Antonio Coutinho and Daniel Burko.


Durfee is a native of Buffalo, Wyoming where he attended Buffalo High School from 2007-2011. In 2010, the Bison won 3A state title for high school boys and finished runners up in Durfee’s senior season.


Durfee is a Waldorf alumnus where he played men's soccer in 2014 and 2015 after transferring from Lamar Community College in Colorado. There, Durfee started 12 games at defender for Lamar in their inaugural season in Region IX. Durfee graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2016 with an emphasis on strength and conditioning.


Coach Durfee was formerly a graduate assistant for the men’s soccer team at Iowa Lakes Community College where they were ranked #18 in 2017. Shortly after, Spencer looked to expand his knowledge and pursued coaching & education in England with UDA Soccer studying for a master’s degree in exercise science and nutrition through University of Chester England.


Durfee returned to Waldorf after spending time back stateside coaching for club Billings United where he worked with various age groups including U8, U13, & U16.
