RICHMOND, Ind. - Shane Meridith was appointed head coach of Indiana University East's new NAIA women's soccer program, on July 13, 2016.

Meridith brought extensive college coaching experience to the new Red Wolf program. Meridith won conference Coach of the Year honors twice during his tenure at Earlham College, where he was the women's soccer head coach from 1994 to 2000 and from 2012 to 2015. Meridith served as an assistant coach for NCAA Division I programs at IUPUI, Miami University (Ohio) and the University of Iowa between 2003 and 2012. He previously was a volunteer assistant for the NCAA Division I program at Ball State University.

Meridith has coached club teams in Cincinnati and Carmel. He has experience as a staff coach for the Indiana Youth Soccer Association and the United State Youth Soccer Association.

"I'm excited to be joining a university that continues to grow and flourish, and I strive to establish a program that reflects all the positive things IU East and the Red Wolf athletic department are doing," Meridith said.

Meridith fielded a highly competitive side during the program's inaugural season during the fall of 2017. IU East earned wins or draws in 10 of 17 matches during the fall of 2017.The Red Wolves finished the season with a two-match winning streak and were unbeaten in five of their last six matches.

IU East made big strides forward in 2018. The Red Wolves finished with a 12-4-4 record. IU East defeated league regular season champion Point Park University in the league tournament semifinals to reach the championship match of the River States Conference tournament.

The third season was the charm for IU East in 2019. The Red Wolves won the RSC Championship title match and reached the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship in what was just the program's third season. Dejhanna O'Bryant became the program's first All-American honoree.

IU East turned the pandemic-affected 2020-21 season into another championship season. The Red Wolves completed the unusual year with a repeat run to the RSC Championship title in the spring and another appearance in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.

Meridith graduated from Earlham College with a Bachelor of Arts in Studies in Education. He has completed coursework toward a master's degree in sport psychology at Ball State University.
