Jamie Davies

Jamie Davies was named the third head coach in the 32-year history of UNF men's soccer, as announced by Director of Athletics Nick Morrow on Tuesday, Dec. 5.


In his first season at the helm for UNF, he won the ASUN Regular Season Championship with a 6-7-3 overall record and a 4-2-1 ASUN record, followed with an ASUN Tournament Championship after wins against FGCU and Central Arkansas. It was the first titles for the Ospreys since 2015, as well as the program's second trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament, where they faced West Virginia.


Davies coached the highest-scoring team in the ASUN with 1.625 goals per game overall with 26 total games, as well as 2.286 goals per game and 16 goals in conference play. He also developed the conference's individual leaders in goals and assists overall and in conference games.


Along with those accolades, Davies coached five straight ASUN Player of the Week honorees, two ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honorees and an ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week honoree. In the postseason, UNF received four ASUN All-Tournament selections and the ASUN Championship Tournament MVP, Joaquin Acuna, after his championship-clinching penalty kick at Hodges Stadium.


Davies came to Jacksonville, Fla., with over a decade and a half of coaching experience at four different collegiate institutions. His most recent collegiate stop was at the University of Central Florida, where he was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator over the past six seasons.


Through his 15 years of coaching at the collegiate level, Davies also currently serves as a regional talent identification scout for the United States Youth National Team. He was a U-16 head coach and regional scout for Atlanta United as well from 2017-18.


A native of London, England, Davies completed his USSF A License in September 2019 under Steffen Siebert Technical Lead instructor for the A-Senior License.


During the 2023 season at UCF, Davies helped lead the program to a 10-4-2 record, including a 6-2-1 record in conference play, to finish with the second-best regular season record in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). The team was ranked in the top six nationally for the majority of the season, including a No. 1 overall ranking for the final two weeks of the regular season and into the SBC Tournament.


In his six seasons with the Knights, Davies served as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator during its run of three AAC regular season championships, one AAC Tournament championship, four AAC Championship appearances, two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances and an NCAA second round appearance. He also assisted in developing five MLS draft picks, two USL professional contracts and one international professional, as well as five team GPA 3.0 awards.


Davies was a part of the UCF coaching staff that was honored as the Sun Belt Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023. This was the fourth time since he joined the program in 2018 that they've been honored with the award, while also assisting the team to five winning seasons in his six years in Orlando, Fla., with a 53-21-8 overall record since his arrival.


Before his time with UCF, Davies was the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Georgia State from 2014-18. He helped the program to four winning seasons, four straight Sun Belt Championship appearances and four team GPA 3.0 awards during those years.


In his final two seasons with the Panthers, he helped produce the top scoring offense in the conference and reached as high as 11th in the nation. He also assisted in eight GSU players earning All-Sun Belt honors and two players earning All-Region honors, while also producing an MLS draft pick and a USL professional contract.


Prior to his time in Atlanta, Ga., Davies spent four seasons at Limestone College as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, where he helped the program accomplish a pair of Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships, along with three tournament championship appearances. He helped produced winning seasons in all four years with four team GPA 3.0 awards, two coaching staff of the year awards and two international professional contracts.


From 2008-10, Davies started his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for his alma mater at Rio Grande. He was a part of two regular season championships and two conference tournament championships, as well as being an NAIA National Tournament finalist and semifinalist in back-to-back years as a top-three team in the nation. The program was also awarded coaching staff of the year twice and led three players to USL professional contracts during his time there.


Davies has extensive playing experience highlighted by spending five years in the USL League Two (USL 2), formally known as the Premier Development League (PDL), with the New Orleans Jesters and the West Virginia Chaos from 2007-11. He took over as the assistant coach during his second season with the Chaos and helped guide the team to a franchise-best record.


Before playing professionally in the PDL/USL 2, Davies played for Crystal Palace FC and Leyton Orient FC at the youth level. He later went on the play for Chelmsford City FC for two years before playing collegiate soccer at William Woods University, where he was named academic all-conference following his freshman and sophomore campaigns.


From 2003-07, Davies received his bachelor's degree in sport management with a minor in business at William Woods in Fulton, Mo. He also earned his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship at the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio, while playing in the PDL/USL 2.


Davies and his wife, Alexis Amador-Davies, have two sons, Rafael and Archie.

Alex Rangel

Rangel joins the Osprey staff as an assistant coach after serving as the goalkeeper coach, as well as the director of operations, for Grand Canyon over the past three seasons from 2021-23. He helped design, craft and execute goalkeeping training sessions that support overall philosophy of developing professionals and winning.


In his first season as an assistant coach, he developed transfer goalkeepers Luciano Natoli, who won ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 28, 2024, and Iu Pentinat, who notched a save in penalty shootouts in the ASUN Championship match. He helped the Ospreys clinch its first conference regular season and tournament titles since 2015, as well as the program's second trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament.


During his time at Grand Canyon, he helped the team to a West Coast Conference regular season championship in 2021. The squad went on to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament that season against Denver, who at the time had current Osprey, Ethan Ash.


Before Rangel's time as an Antelope, Rangel served as an assistant coach, goalkeeper coach and director of operations at Oregon State during the 2022 season. He was in charge of set-piece, video, camp, equipment and social media coordination, as well as travel.


In 2022, the Beavers made it to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 8 national seed. They advanced to the second round of the postseason after earning a bye as a top-16 seed.


Rangel's first stop as a collegiate coach began with Pima Community College, where he was a goalkeeper coach from 2016-21. He assisted the team to three regional titles, three district titles, three national title appearance and a national championship title in 2018.


On top of his collegiate experience, Rangel also has worked with youth club teams, as he currently is in his fourth season as a goalkeeper coach and assistant coach for Real Salt Lake Arizona. He is responsible for setting the vision for youth goalkeeper development within the academy with emphasis on technical, vision, communication and leadership.


Rangel started off as a club coach in 2016, when he became the goalkeeper coach for FC Tucson and served in that position until 2021. He was on a staff that earned a pair of conference championships and regional runner-ups, as well as three goalkeepers named in top five of PDL and 10 former keepers moving on to play professionally.


Since 2015, he has also been the owner and the president of Top Hand Goalkeeping, which has impacted over hundreds of youth goalkeepers through his program. He has extensive coaching education with certifications for USSF F, E, D & C, as well as NSCAA Diplomas 1 & 2 -- GK Specific.


Rangel started his college education at Pima Community College from 2007-09. He went on to graduate from Columbia College (Missouri) with a Bachelor's of Arts in Business Administration in 2011.

Marlon Montanella

Marlon Montanella joins the Osprey staff as an assistant coach after spending the past four seasons under the same role at the University of Bridgeport.


In his first season as an assistant for UNF, he helped head coach Jamie Davies develop five All-ASUN selections and eight weekly conference recognitions, including five ASUN Player of the Week honors. He helped the Ospreys clinch its first conference regular season and tournament titles since 2015, as well as the program's second trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament.


During his time as an assistant at Bridgeport, Montanella helped the program to a 25-19-12 overall record and a 20-7-5 conference record. The team reached the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference finals in 2023, while also clinching the playoffs during all three seasons competed in the ECC and CACC.


While at Bridgeport, Montanella recruited and coached the nationally-ranked top scorer and points leader in the 2023 NCAA D-II season. He also coached multiple award-winning players, including a D2CAA First Team All-American, the CACC Player of the Year, the CACC Rookie of the Year and a pair of ECC/CACC Goalkeepers of the Year.


On top of that, Montanella also developed two USC All-East Region Second Team players, three D2CCA First Team East Region players, and a D2CCA Second Team East Region player. There were also 14 players that were All-Conference selections between the ECC and CACC, including 10 First Team selections.


During his time as an assistant, Montanella also served as the head coach in the MLS NEXT Academy for Beachside Soccer Club in Norwalk, Conn. The year before, he was the director of coaching for the Ole Soccer Academy in Fairfield, Conn.


Montanella graduated with his master's degree in analytics from the University of Bridgeport in December 2020 and holds a United States Soccer Federation C License.


Prior to joining the coaching staff, Montanella started his UB soccer career as a player in 2018. He was part of the men soccer team which reached the ECC conference tournament championship game in 2019. During that season, he earned First Team All-ECC and Third Team All-East Region honors.


Prior to arriving in the Park City, he was a student-athlete at Young Harris College in Georgia where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was part of a program that captured the Peach Belt Conference tournament titles in 2016 and in 2017, and won the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2017.


A native from Cannes, France, Montanella holds another bachelor degree in sports sciences from the University of Nice and played at the A.S. Cannes academy under Coach David Bettoni. Many famous professional soccer players came out of the A.S. Cannes academy, such as Zinedine Zidane and Patrick Vieira.


Montanella is the son of ex-professional soccer player and Zidane’s former teammate in Cannes, Georges Montanella, and grandson of international french soccer player, Jean Baeza.
